EU Commission to present plans for ‘Digital Green Pass’ to allow return of travel

EUROPE. The European Commission is to present proposals this month for a Digital Green Pass that will facilitate travel for EU citizens once border controls ease, President Ursula von der Leyen said yesterday.

She said the aim of the EU-wide digital certificate will be to provide proof that a person has been vaccinated; results of COVID-19 testing and information on the pandemic and the path to recovery.

She said: “The Digital Green Pass should facilitate Europeans’ lives. The aim is to gradually enable them to move safely in the European Union or abroad – for work our tourism.”

The Commission aims to present its plans by 17 March.
