Exclusive: Fraport Bulgaria reveals upgraded commercial offer in Varna Airport Terminal 2

BULGARIA. Fraport Bulgaria has officially unveiled the newly reconstructed Terminal 2 at Varna Airport. It features an upgraded and extended commercial offer operated by master concession holders Nuance BG (part of Avolta) and Lagardère Travel Retail.

The expanded airside retail zone features a redesign for Nuance BG’s duty-free store, plus its other concepts, including convenience shop Hudson, fashion store Collection and confectionery outlet Candy Fair.

A standout feature of the new T2 layout is the Gate Garden, a new two-floor terrace space which allows passengers to board their flights directly from a landscaped outdoor area. This is described by Fraport Bulgaria Head of Commercial Svetlana Simeonova as “a first-of-its-kind concept and a rare sight in European aviation”.

This area includes three food & beverage concepts from Lagardère Travel Retail in the form of the Beach Bar (which overlooks the apron), the Onda café and McDonald’s (operated by Lagardère partner Sunfoods, which owns the franchise for McDonald’s across Bulgaria).

McDonald’s and Candy Fair adjoin a family zone which features an outdoor children’s playground.

Lagardère Travel Retail’s other F&B concepts inside T2 include 2Gather Café and InfinEat, which offers several cuisines.

Simeonova told The Moodie Davitt Report: “Our vision was to make the airport an extension of the holiday – not just a point of departure. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together with our technical team and our retail partners.

“The Gate Garden is more than a design feature – it’s a statement about how we want passengers to feel when they travel through Varna.

“The T2 upgrade combines operational enhancements with a strong focus on passenger experience, creating a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere inspired by the Black Sea coast’s relaxed holiday mood.”
