HONG KONG. French fine foods brand Fauchon Paris celebrated the formal opening of its stand-alone store at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) on Friday, together with its chosen retail partners Lagardère Services Asia Pacific and Aelia.

The 53sq m Fauchon boutique is located in the airport’s West Hall, in a pier serving a number of key Asian carriers. It offers a wide range of Fauchon’s most popular delicacies, including goose and duck foies gras, fresh and farmed caviars, smoked salmon, biscuits, condiments, coffees, teas and preserves, plus a range of gifts.

A number of travel retail exclusives are on offer and soon customers will be able to buy a range exclusive to Hong Kong International Airport.

Fauchon Paris Travel Retail Accounts Manager Faozia Math-Ly-Roun told The Moodie Report that she was delighted with the store opening and the quality of its execution. It is the company’s first airport store outside France.

She said the brand was very well established with Japanese travellers, thanks to its strong presence in the Japanese market. It is also proving popular with other Asian travellers, she said, particularly Chinese, Taiwanese and Thais.

Lagardère Services Asia Pacific CEO Scott Raisin told The Moodie Report: “It’s a great day for us. It’s really the first dedicated Fauchon travel retail store in the world, so we’re very proud to be associated with Fauchon the brand and to be here in Hong Kong with Airport Authority Hong Kong.

“For us it’s another step along the speciality retail side. It’s nice to make that step with Fauchon and there will be more to come.”

Raisin echoed both the popularity and potential of Fauchon Paris with various Asian nationalities. “The Japanese market has known Fauchon for 30 years so we have had a great success already with the Japanese passengers at Hong Kong International Airport – they’re well aware of the brand.”

Other nationalities, particularly the Chinese and Thais, were also buying well he said, while the company was working hard to educate Hong Kong nationals and other groups about the brand.

“It’s very much a premium offer and a premium brand – it’s set among some luxury brands so it fits well. It’s nice to have an alternative to fashion and leathergoods – something you can take away as a gift or for self-consumption.”

We’ll bring you more details and comment on the Fauchon opening in a follow-up story soon.
