Dubai Duty Free plans an amazing -24% discount across a wide range of products on 20 December |
DUBAI. Dubai Duty Free celebrates its 24th anniversary on 20 December – an anniversary that looks sure to signal another sales milestone for the award-winning retailer. It plans to extend an unprecedented -24% discount to travellers on that day throughout the 24 hour period.
The anniversary day, which coincides this year with the Eid al Adha period, offers travellers the chance to avail themselves of a -24% discount across a wide range of merchandise. The offer will begin at midnight on 19 December and will end 24 hours later.
Readers of The Moodie Report.com will also have an opportunity to win big on Dubai Duty Free’s anniversary day. All you have to do is forecast the retailer’s sales on the big day. The reader who forecasts closest to the actual sales will win a ticket in the popular Millennium Millionaire prize draw – which offers ticket holders a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win US$1 million.
Will the figure be more than last year’s AED29.5 million? Given Dubai Duty Free’s record-breaking sales performance in the year to date, that would come as no surprise.
To enter, all you have to do is send your forecast for Dubai Duty Free’s sales on 20 December (in UAE Dirhams) at Martin@TheMoodieReport.com, heading the e-mail “˜Dubai Duty Free Festive Forecast’. Entries close at 5.30pm UK time on 20 December. The winner will be announced soon after 20 December.
Commenting on the anniversary day plans, Dubai Duty Free Managing Director Colm McLoughlin said: “The anniversary discount offer, which began with Dubai Duty Free’s 20th Anniversary in 2003, proved to be so popular that we have decided to continue this offer once again this year. We see this as our way of saying thank you to our customers who have helped Dubai Duty Free to achieve such fantastic sales results over the years.”
Sales on the 23rd anniversary day in 2006 hit US$8.2 million |
With sales in the year to date running at +26% higher than 2006, the operation is well on track to achieving annual sales in excess of US$850 million.
“In 2006, when we offered a -23% discount to mark our 23rd anniversary on 20 December, our sales soared to US$8.2 million so we are expecting even higher sales on the anniversary day this year,” added McLoughlin.
As part of the 24th anniversary celebrations Dubai Duty Free will ensure a party-like atmosphere throughout the retail operation on that day. Plans are in place to conduct a Millennium Millionaire draw, a Finest Surprise Luxury Car draw and a series of other promotional activities that will involve travellers and staff.
When Dubai Duty Free opened for business on 20 December 1983, the operation had 100 employees, 63 of whom are still in active service and are referred to as the “˜pioneers’. The operation currently employs over 2,000 staff, of 38 different nationalities.
