GERMANY. Frankfurt Airport Retail (FAR) and Hermès have opened a new 160sq m space for the luxury brand, double the footprint of the previous store in the Terminal 1 Non-Schengen zone airside.
The Gebr Heinemann-Fraport joint venture said the space would allow it to “display a wider spectrum of goods, and to individually curate and stage the respective product groups”.
The new store design allows for better orientation, and features women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, accessories including Hermès silk carrés, perfumes, handbags and small leather goods, as well as jewellery and tableware. There is also space allocated to footwear, for which FAR said there is strong potential at the location.
FAR also highlighted the “warm and friendly ambience” of the store, citing the “refined lighting design, earth tones and combination of wood, glass, carpet and natural stone floors”.
The brand is particularly sought after by travellers from China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and, more recently, South Korea, noted the retailer.
FAR Managing Director Dirk Mörchen said: “For decades, Hermès has succeeded in creating an extremely high level of desire for their products among our international clientele in the luxury segment. We are therefore very pleased to be able to offer our passengers a much wider range of products now, thanks to the expanded sales area. The new store concept offers our customers a shopping experience at the highest level. Frankfurt Airport will become even more appealing for lovers of the most coveted international luxury brands.”
Co-Managing Director Georg Fuhrmann added: “With our new Hermès Maison, we are continuing the brand’s long history of success at this location.”
Fraport Senior Vice President Retail Ute Pohl said: “The new Hermès Boutique is a successful component of our upgrades of the marketplaces for premium brands at Frankfurt Airport.”
Hermès opened its first airport store worldwide at Frankfurt Airport with Gebr Heinemann in the mid-1970s.
“We are proud to be continuing our successful partnership with Hermès in Frankfurt. This is where the worldwide, generation-spanning cooperation of two family-owned companies comes to the fore – and is characterised by many years of trust, respect and continuity. Our joint success strategy has proven its worth, and we aim to continue to grow globally along with Hermès,” said Heinemann Director Purchasing Fashion & Accessories Jan Richter.
