JTI brings its latest generation of smoking lounges to Frankfurt Airport |
Frankfurt Airport has opened its first fully enclosed and ventilated smoking lounge in partnership with Japan Tobacco International. The 65sq m is Camel-branded and located in the airport’s Terminal B-East.
The lounge will soon be followed by nine more smoking facilities covering an area of just under 1,000sq m. The project at the airport was handled by Media Frankfurt, a subsidiary of Fraport AG.
David Francis, General Manager and Vice President of JTI’s Worldwide Duty Free business, said: “Frankfurt Airport serves over 55 million passengers a year, of whom we can expect at least 12 million to be adult smokers. For both travellers and the airport this will be a world-class customer service facility significantly enhancing the traveller’s experience at the airport.”
JTI has been rolling out its acclaimed programme of smoking lounges in key airports over recent years. Frankfurt Airport opened its first dedicated facilities in 2005 with basic adult smoking areas, and has since kept pace with all JTI’s subsequent developments in this area, including the opening of smoking cabins in 2007.
The partners said that the lounges “are the results of a close working relationship between JTI and the airport,” one that “satisfies all airport users”.
The lounge offers adult smokers the benefit of a dedicated, comfortable, purpose-built facility without affecting non-smokers in the vicinity. The wishes and preferences of all airport users are carefully respected, said the airport and brand owner.
“The new smoker lounges will improve the range of services offered by Frankfurt Airport and thus make it more attractive for all passengers,” said Fraport Group.
