Fraport seals strategic partnership with Lufthansa loyalty programme Miles & More

GERMANY. Fraport today announced a strategic partnership with the Lufthansa-owned airline loyalty programme Miles & More, becoming its first fully-integrated partner. The tie-up will enable members to earn and redeem miles throughout Fraport-operated Frankfurt Airport.

The company said the integration of retailers and restaurants at the airport – and other Fraport services – with Miles & More will “take place successively in the coming years”. It will also become a co-publisher of the Miles & More awards programme.

Fraport added that the merger forms the basis for the joint strategic expansion of the retail segment at Germany’s busiest travel hub.

Signing the agreement in the foreground are Dr. Oliver Schmitt (Miles & More Managing Director and Senior Vice President Loyalty & Ancillary Services at Lufthansa Group) and Anke Giesen (Fraport Member of the Executive Board Retail and Real Estate). With them, in the row behind, are (left to right) Jan-Dieter Schaap (Fraport Senior Vice President Retail & Properties); Klaus Froese (Chief Executive Officer Lufthansa Airlines & Hub Management Frankfurt); Dirk Janzen (Lufthansa Group Vice President Ancillary & Retail Management); Christiane Barthold (Miles & More Sales Development Manager); Karl-Heinz Dietrich (Fraport Senior Executive Vice President Retail & Properties); Benjamin Ritschel (Fraport Vice President Retail Marketing Fraport); Johann-Philipp Bruns (Lufthansa Group Senior Director Retail Management); and Christina Foerster (Deutsche Lufthansa Member of the Executive Board and Chief Customer Officer)

Deutsche Lufthansa Member of the Executive Board and Chief Customer Officer Christina Foerster said: “With this unique partnership, we offer our customers special incentives to become a member of the Miles & More programme as well as real added value within the triad of the brands Lufthansa, Miles & More and Fraport.

“Our goal is to target additional retail potential through a more focused approach and individual offers on site and, above all, to ensure a special customer experience and increased loyalty in various areas for our members” – Miles & More Managing Director Dr Oliver Schmitt

“We achieve this with personalised offers based on analysed customer needs. For us, this joint strategic development creates differentiation and raises promising retail potential with a view to a more far-reaching partnership between Lufthansa and Fraport in the future.”

A digital co-brand service card will be introduced by Miles & More and Fraport, with new customers able to register for the programme directly at Frankfurt Airport and benefit from its advantages.

Fraport Member of the Executive Board Retail and Real Estate Anke Giesen said: “With this strategic partnership, we are establishing a world-renowned awards programme at Frankfurt Airport that enhances the customer experience and covers the entire passenger travel chain.

Fraport said Frankfurt Airport’s association with the Miles & More loyalty programme will contribute towards expanding its retail offer

“The merger increases the attractiveness of our airport as a retail location, especially because we can actively recruit Miles & More members and thus build up our own customer base. This expands our retail segment in the long term.”

Dr Oliver Schmitt, Managing Director of Miles & More and Senior Vice President Loyalty & Ancillary Services at Lufthansa Group, said: “Frankfurt Airport is the largest hub in Germany for our members. Through our partnership with Fraport, we are significantly optimising the customer journey at the airport and making our programme even more attractive.”

He added: “Our goal is to target additional retail potential through a more focused approach and individual offers on site and, above all, to ensure a special customer experience and increased loyalty in various areas for our members.”

Miles from the Miles & More loyalty programme can also be earned through Lufthansa’s fellow Star Alliance members such as United Airlines, Air Canada, Air China and Singapore Airlines, as well as Lufthansa subsidiaries including Eurowings and Swiss International Air Lines.
