CANADA. The first National Canadian Duty Free Golf Tournament, co-sponsored by the Frontier Duty Free Association (FDFA) and Pernod Ricard Americas Travel Retail, has raised US$25,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – BC/Yukon Region (CBCF).

Held at the Chateau Fairmont Whistler Golf & Resort in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada on 9 May, the tournament saw over 70 participants.

The event was held in memory of Lori Watson, a well-loved colleague within the industry who passed away last June from breast cancer. She was the Canadian duty free supplier representative from Pernod Ricard Americas Travel Retail.

Frontier Duty Free Association Executive Director Laurie Karson commented: “We could not be more thrilled with the generosity of our duty free members in raising so much money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. In 2012, we lost so many in our industry to cancer, and Lori Watson’s loss was extremely difficult for so many. To be able to give back to a foundation that is dedicated to a future without breast cancer is a tremendous honour.”

Fundraising in support of CBCF included a contribution from event registration, a silent auction as well as a live auction.

“In the first year of this event, CBCF is thrilled with the tremendous fundraising results and commitment to the breast cancer cause. We look forward to a successful partnership for years to come, and thank all involved for their support,” said Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – BC/Yukon Region CEO Wendy Slavin.
