Germany’s Sixt in driving seat at Glasgow Airport – 20/10/06

Glasgow Prestwick Airport: “Committed to attracting well-known brands to customers”UK. German firm Sixt is to provide car hire services at Glasgow Prestwick for the next five years after reaching agreement with the Scottish airport’s owners, Infratil Airports Europe (IAEL).

The deal will see Sixt – an existing partner of IAEL, operating at Glasgow Prestwick’s sister airport in Lübeck, Germany – supported by local partner Compass Self Drive.

IAEL Commercial and Property General Manager Kate Thripp said: “We are delighted to welcome Sixt to Glasgow Prestwick – the company brings with it a distinguished history, excellent reputation and a high standard of customer service.”

Thripp added: “Infratil Airports Europe is in the process of reviewing the car hire services at each of our locations, which further demonstrates our commitment to attracting well-known brands and offering a wider choice of products and brands to our customers.”

Sixt has expanded to 143 rental locations since entering the UK market in 2000 and own more than 3,500 outlets worldwide.

“We are looking forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Infratil Airports Europe,” commented Head of Sales Beverley Oliver. “Our new location at Glasgow Prestwick will provide a cost-effective and reliable solution to its passengers, to ensure they get the most from their travels, whether it is for business or leisure.”

Compass owner Donald McDonald added: “This new contract with Infratil recognises the excellent standard of service we offer our clients and we are pleased to have been chosen as Glasgow Prestwick Airport’s car hire specialists.”

Founded in Germany in 1912, Sixt is a family-run company which grew to be a market leader after Erich Sixt took the top job in 1969, coming up with such ideas as the ‘Mercedes for the price of a VW Golf’ campaign.
