BARBADOS. A decision over who will run the retail offer at Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) is expected soon.
Earlier this year GAIA invited experienced duty free retailers to submit proposals for the operation of one or more of the 16 concession packages forming the future duty free retail programme at the newly-expanded and refurbished air terminal building.
A limited number of spaces have been left completely open to allow interested parties to propose ideas that have not been included in the stated retail mix.
GAIA Commercial Manager Kay Richardson told The Moodie Report that the request for proposals closed on 3 May. “The final decision will be announced after the proposals have been duly evaluated,” she said. “We hope to have the evaluations completed in about one month.”
Until the appointees begin trading a number of concessionaires are operating on a temporary basis at the airport. The winner/s will pay GAIA rent in the form of a minimum annual guarantee (MAG) or a percentage of gross revenue, whichever is greater. Richardson added: “In addition, proponents may offer to pay some other formulas of rent as long as these rents are to the financial advantage of GAIA Inc and are paid over and above the percentage rent and/or minimum rent.
