BRAZIL. GRU Airport, the operator of São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport, has officially announced the terms of its agreement with Dufry for the operation of the duty free area in Terminal 3.
In a Portuguese-language statement, GRU Airport said that it signed a ten-year contract with Dufry on 1 September to operate all the duty free space in the new terminal, which will open in May 2014.
With the contract, Dufry will have a sales area of 6,861sq m in the new terminal, the statement said.
The space will feature two duty free stores selling general travel retail goods: one in the Departures area with 1,080sq m, and another in the Arrivals area with 4,367sq m.
Both of these stores will be designed following a walk-through concept.
GRU Airport will also launch the designer duty free store concept in Brazil at T3, with Dufry to open 15 boutiques featuring international luxury brands in a total area of 1,414sq m.
Including Dufry’s retail spaces in Terminal 2 – the expanded Arrivals duty free store that opened on 18 August, and the under-renovation Departures store – the space devoted to duty free shops at the airport will grow from 4,370sq m to 13,385sq m.
GRU Airport said that finalising the duty free contract is in line with the strategy set out in its business plan, which aims to stimulate non-aeronautical revenue and improve the quality of products and services offered to its passengers.
