BELGIUM. Belgian chocolatier Guylian will present a host of new products at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes this month (Stand number: Mediterranean Village P10).

New to the luxury gifting segment is the Perles d’Ocean (375g), a Guylian Sea Shells box set created exclusively for travel retail.

Guylian’s chocolate Sea Shells is its core brand which enjoys strong awareness among travellers and consumers worldwide, Guylian said. Its strength lies in the combination of top quality ingredients and great value for money, it claimed.

This new pack offers 33 of the original praliné filled Sea Shells in an embossed golden box, under the Perles d’Ocean sub-brand which is exclusive for travel retail.

Guylian Duty Free & Travel Retail Director Steven Candries said: “Guylian innovates the brand year after year with new packaging concepts following global market trends.

“We’re now in a clear trend towards premiumisation in the gift sector. Therefore, this new golden box is perfect for travellers looking for a delicious and luxuriously packaged gift for friends and family.

“For our duty free trade partners it’s great to have another exclusive item with great sales potential. With this new gift concept Guylian reinforces its leadership in the seashells segment.” In 2008 Guylian was again ranked within the top 10 of best sold international chocolate brands, Candries added.

New in the dark chocolate segment is Guylian Extra Dark, created in response to a growing demand for dark chocolate due to its proven health benefits.

A line extension of its core Sea Shells brand, Guylian Sea Shells Extra Dark has a shell of extra dark (74% cocoa) Belgian chocolate and a filling made with a new dark roasted hazelnut praliné recipe.

The box is very recognisable for the Guylian brand with the square format, the goldfoil logo and its wave-shaped window.

“With this new product we will not only surprise our existing customers but we will surely also attract new ones looking for dark chocolate pralines with an outstanding and powerful taste made of the finest Belgian chocolate. The 250g box pack serves as a gift and a self-treat,” added Candries.

Another line extension to the Sea Shells range is Guylian Sea Shells Strawberry, which comes with an improved recipe and upgraded packaging.

The new Strawberry Sea Shells now have a dark chocolate shell of 49% cocoa, in line with the growing trend for dark chocolate. The creamy strawberry filling is made with premium Belgian white chocolate and fresh natural strawberries.

Guylian Sea Shells Strawberry is presented in the standard Guylian square box, distinguished by the red colours and golden inner tray. It is available as a 210g gift pack (22 pieces) as well as a six-piece self-indulgence pack for snacking.

Guylian has also upgraded its assorted pralines range with the Guylian Opus.

“The pack has now been redesigned adding a light pink swirl and elegant lines, making it more modern, more premium, and more appetite appealing by showing the beautifully sculpted chocolates, each piece according to a well known classical opera, on the front of the box,” said Candries.

At the TFWA show Guylian will also presents its brand new range of premium 100g Belgian chocolate bars. The new Guylian chocolate bars are made with carefully selected, high-quality ingredients and 100% cocoa butter.

The range offers three flavours: Dark 72% cocoa chocolate made with cocoa beans from Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, milk chocolate (31% cocoa) with hazelnuts from the Mediterranean and white chocolate made with 100% cocoa butter and full cream milk powders with hazelnuts from the Mediterranean.

“Each flavour is unique in the market place because of its premium quality taste and finest chocolate texture. Combined with the high Guylian brand recognition and consumer likeability in the Duty Free shops, this new bar range is sure to become another successful Guylian product for travellers that want to enjoy an indulgent snack while travelling,” commended Candries.

In line with current health trends Guylian will also offer a renewed range of bars made of the finest Belgian chocolate – without adding sugar. The chocolatier claims that there is no compromise whatsoever on the taste: Guylian No Sugar Added Bars tastes just like premium quality Belgian chocolate.

Anonymous consumer research conducted by Guylian shows that consumers don’t recognise No Sugar Added bars in blind tastings. Additionally, the Guylian No Sugar Added bars have been rated tops for taste by a leading consumer magazine in the US.

Guylian No Sugar Added Bars are made with maltitol, a natural sweetener that has fewer calories than sugar, doesn’t promote tooth decay, and won’t raise blood sugar. It is produced with the same high-quality ingredients and traditional chocolate-making techniques as all Guylian products. The bars are therefore also suitable for diabetics.

The former range of 80g bars have been transformed to slightly larger and thinner tablets of 100g, and come in dark chocolate (54% cocoa) and milk chocolate flavours.

Guylian is also launching small chocolate gift packs for its Seashells, Truffles and Assorted pralines concepts. Available at a lower price point, this set of boxes has now been restyled to make them even more valuable gifts.
