Anthony Chalhoub: Bouncing back from recent disappointment with important inflight gainKUWAIT. Kuwait Airways has awarded its new inflight duty free concession to Habchi & Chalhoub/Traveller. It is currently operated by South African travel retailer Tourvest Duty Free.
Habchi & Chalhoub Managing Director Anthony Chalhoub told The Moodie Report yesterday: “We are pleased to announce that Kuwait Airways concession of sales onboard has been awarded to Habchi & Chalhoub/Traveller and will operate as from November 1st 2005. The agreement was signed this morning.”
Traveller is a Chalhoub subsidiary specializing in inflight sales and supply.
The news willl come as a disappointment to Tourvest which had invested much in a new market. Conversely it is a boost for Habchi & Chalhoub, which appears to have lost its Kuwait International Airport duty free concession, though the new contract is yet to be signed. When the bids there were opened in September, the incumbent’s bid of KWD2.1 million (US$7.0 million) in minimum annual guarantees over each year of the six-year term was well behind that of a partnership between Aldeasa and That Al Salassel that offered a minimum annual guarantee of Kuwaiti Dinar (KWD) 5.1 million (US$17.5 million).
