Promotional campaigns help Hainan’s offshore duty-free sales hit US$492 million during summer holidays

CHINA. Hainan’s 12 offshore duty-free stores generated sales of CNY3.51 billion (US$492.4 million) from 612,000 transactions during the summer travel season from 1 July to 25 August.

The statistics from Haikou Customs reveal that of the total, ‘immediate pick-up’ sales accounted for CNY365 million (US$51.2 million).

As reported, the third annual Hainan Offshore Duty Free Shopping Festival and the sixth cdf Hainan Offshore Duty Free Shopping Festival kicked off on 1 July, stimulating purchases through a range of activities.

Additionally, the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce launched a promotional campaign late August releasing duty-free shopping vouchers to boost tourism and encourage spending. 🏝️
