Icebox Cafe opened at Miami International Airport in 2010 |
USA. Icebox Cafe’s recent award win at Miami airport is a victory for “healthy, homemade, delicious food in airports”, according to the restaurant’s founder and owner Robert Siegmann.
The venue was named as the North Terminal’s “˜Best Concessionaire of the Year’ in the medium-sized category at the airport’s inaugural annual Concession of the Year Awards Ceremony . Outlets in the category were judged on excellence in presentation, menu selection, sales and customer service.
Icebox Cafe won a competitive bid to open at Miami International Airport in 2010, and was one of the first independently owned and operated concessions at the airport.
“I felt there was a growing need for healthy, homemade, delicious food in airports, especially as airlines were cutting back on inflight meals and the traveling public was cultivating a more discerning palate,” said Siegmann.
“It is a great honour to be recognised for our deep commitment to consistently provide high quality product and service to travellers by our fellow business community.”
Icebox Cafe has a second airport concept, The Mediterranean Kitchen, in the North Terminal Marketplace, also located in Terminal D. It also currently owns and operates multiple airport locations nationwide, with plans to expand, according to Siegmann.
