Heathrow promotes One Water in new exhibition – 07/07/09

Raising awareness: Actress and One Water ambassador Rebecca Lacey, BAA Retail Services Director Hugh Fenn, former athlete Linford Christie, actor and One Water ambassador Ian Kelsey and One Water Founder and MD Duncan Goose officially open the PlayPump exhibition

UK. Sporting and television stars last week celebrated the opening of an installation at London Heathrow Terminal 5 which aims to raise funds for clean drinking water in developing countries.

British television actors Ian Kelsey and Rebecca Lacey were joined by former sprinter and gold medallist Linford Christie to officially open the One Water PlayPump exhibit.

The 6m high replica pump in the Expo display area on the Departures concourse seeks to raise awareness for One Water, the ethical water brand that donates all its profits to the installation of PlayPump water systems in Asia, Africa and other developing countries.

Boutique hotel group Malmaison is sponsoring the PlayPump installation, having supported PlayPumps International for a number of years. Malmaison is celebrating its 12th anniversary this year.

One Water has installed over 300 PlayPumps, benefiting the lives of more than 640,000 people. The charity continues to install a PlayPump every three to four days.

Passengers at T5 will be able to donate to the cause by text message or by giving to One Water representatives at the airport.

BAA Head of Sponsorship and Experience Juan Perez said: “We are delighted to be working with One Water and to have some of Britain’s best home-grown talent at Terminal 5 to mark the opening. We not only hope it will help continue to grow and change lives but add a unique and unexpected dimension for passengers flying through Heathrow during the summer months.”

One Water Founder and Managing Director Duncan Goose said: “I am overwhelmed by the generosity and support that we have received from BAA in providing the space for the installation of the PlayPump in Terminal 5. Together with the sponsorship from Malmaison, the model will enable passengers to see firsthand how a PlayPump works and appreciate its impact on communities worldwide.

“We are aiming to raise funds for five PlayPumps through charitable donations, but passengers will also be able to help further by buying a bottle of One Water in World Duty Free stores as they continue their journey through the airport,” he added.

WDF has sold One Water through its World Duty Free stores since 2006, selling over 2 million bottles of water and funding 32 PlayPumps.
