THE BALKANS. Greek retailer Hellenic Duty Free Shops (HDFS) and Germany company Gebr Heinemann have split the spoils after an open tender for the supply of duty free products to Skopje and Ohrid airports in Macedonia.
Hellenic will supply fragrances, cosmetics, ouzo, Metaxa brandy, Red Bull, wine and cigarillos.
Ohrid is the second-busiest airport in Macedonia after Skopje. Both are managed by state-owned Public Enterprise of Airport Services – Macedonia, with retail historically run in-house.
The supply tender was won in competition with five other companies. HDFS said it regards the success as a “positive development in the expansion of its activities as well as its continued financial growth”.
HDFS already has one contract in the Balkans: the supply of fragrances, liquor and certain brands of cigarettes to Greek army units in the Kosovo region.
The remaining product categories at Ohrid and Skopje (cigarettes, chocolate and other alcoholic products) will be supplied by German travel retailer and distributor Gebr Heinemann.
Following negotiations with the government, Hellenic said it will assume the management organisation of the Ohrid Airport store.
