Hershey’s ventures into duty free market – 19/04/07

US. Hershey’s, the leading confectionery company in the US with a market share of around 40%, is mounting a major push into the duty free sector with the launch of a range of premium-quality, branded products.

Ten exclusive lines have been developed for the duty free sector. They will make their debut at the IAADFS show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, next week and will be available through Hershey’s exclusive US duty free distributor, Chase International (Booth 2037).

Allan Slimming, Regional Business Manager for Hershey International, commented: “Up until now, this star-studded collection of Hershey’s best-selling brands in gift packaging has only been available through our own retail outlet, Chocolate World, in Hershey, Pennsylvania.”

The new range will also be featured in the TFWA Asia Pacific show in Singapore in May. Hershey’s will showcase the new duty free products on the stand of Focus Network Agencies, Hershey’s South Asia duty free distributor. The new duty free range will be rolled out in Asia from next month.

Hershey’s Kisses have been an American classic since 1907

A number of the new duty free products have a nostalgic feel and presentation, including the Hershey’s Kisses Kids Nostalgia Tin, which features a 1920s design that has proved popular with parents and children visiting Chocolate World, the company said.

Two further Kisses gift presentations include a Kisses-shaped tin carrying the words “Love Someone” and a heart-shaped “I Love Kisses” tin. A new Kissables Tin contains candy-coated miniature Kisses.

The Reese’s Nostalgia Tin contains Reese’s miniatures and the Original Hershey’s Nostalgia Window Tin features pictures of old town Hershey and contains snack-size Hershey’s milk chocolate.

Assortments include Hershey’s Mixed Assortment Tub containing Kisses, mini Reese’s and Hershey’s miniatures plus the Assorted Tins Gift Pack with a rope handle and containing a selection of Kisses, Reese’s and Hershey’s snack-size milk chocolate.

The chocolate range includes the Hershey’s Giant Bar four-pack containing two 8oz Hershey’s milk chocolate bars plus 8oz bars of Special Dark and Symphony.

The range is completed by the Hershey’s Suitcase, which holds a mix of the company’s best-selling lines. The gift pack includes Classic milk chocolate bars, Giant Reese’s Cups, Kissables, Take 5 and Kit-Kat. This presentation will only be available for sale in the US.

“We are delighted to bring an exclusive gift pack range of best-selling products to the duty free sector. This is an area where Hershey’s has not traditionally been well represented and, as such, it offers a wonderful opportunity for the company and our duty free customers,” said Slimming.
