Hilton Worldwide to operate Munich Airport hotel from January 2015

Hilton Worldwide takes over from Kempinski at Munich Airport’s hotel in 2015

GERMANY. Hilton Worldwide will run Munich Airport’s hotel from 1 January 2015, after incumbent operator Kempinski hotel group’s contract expires. Kempinski has managed the hotel for 20 years.

The airport hotel, which is adjacent to Terminal 2, opened in May 1994. It will be run from next year under the Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Hotel Kempinski and its staff for the excellent services they have provided to travellers over the past two decades,” said Dr. Michael Kerkloh, President and CEO of FMG, the Munich Airport operating company.

The hotel is set to expand through the construction of 160 more rooms, taking capacity to well over 500 rooms. That project is due for completion in 2017, with other renovations also planned. Hilton Worldwide will offer positions to the 250 hotel staff who work there today.

FMG decided on the new operating company after a selection process aided by an external consultancy, the Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels & Hospitality Group.

Dr. Kerkloh said: “After a detailed review of all offers, we selected the most compelling option, and are now looking forward to working with Hilton Worldwide. Through the commitment of this renowned hotel group, which has successfully operated numerous hotels at airports all over the world for many years, the high standard of hospitality at Munich Airport will be maintained in the long term.”

FMG and Hilton Worldwide will officially sign their agreement on March 6 at the ITB travel trade show in Berlin.
