Hong Kong Airport reports solid October growth – 20/11/07

HONG KONG. Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) experienced another month of solid growth in October this year, with passenger volume increasing more than +7% from October 2006.

Passenger throughput reached 4.13 million, up +7.1% from October 2006, while air traffic movements grew +5.8% to 25,830.

Explaining the latest upswings, Airport Authority Hong Kong CEO Stanley Hui said: “As one of China’s key aviation hubs, HKIA benefited from strong passenger demand during the National Day Golden Week holiday. It is also a reflection of the continued attraction of Hong Kong as a destination for visitors from mainland China.”

He added: “We will continue to capitalise on our geographical advantage and enhance our connectivity with the mainland to meet growing demand for both passenger and cargo services.”

For the 12 months ended 31 October 2007, HKIA handled 47.1 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of +7.4%, and witnessed 292,740 air traffic movements, up +5% from last year.

In October UNI Air and South African Airways began providing check-in services in Terminal Two, which opened earlier this year to meet growing demand.

Philippine Airlines moved to T2 on 16 November and will be joined by Hong Kong Airlines and Hong Kong Express Airways on 28 November. Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, Emirates, Jetstar Asia Airways, Bangkok Airways, Siem Reap Airways International and Thai Airways International also operate from T2.
