Iberia to move American hub from Miami

US/SPAIN. Increased security measures in US airports have led to Iberia looking to move its hub from Miami International Airport and seek an alternative in Central America.

Iberia CEO Angel Mullor said the maintenance of the hub in Miami is difficult for the company due to the strict security measures introduced at US airports. The strict measures hinder normal operations of the company and cause inconvenience to passengers, Mullor said.

Miami Airport serves as a hub for Iberia’s flights to Guatemala, Managua (Nicaragua), San Pedro de Sula (Honduras), Cancun (Mexico), Panama, San Jose (Costa Rica) and San Salvador (El Salvador).

Iberia is looking to transfer the hub to another major airport in Central America. The airports in Cancun, Panama, and San Juan, are among the possibilities for the transfer.
