Image of the Day: Strange Nature gin builds Aussie profile

Our regular feature, brought to you in association with Strange Nature gin from New Zealand, celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

AUSTRALIA. Today’s image is rather neatly all about this column’s sponsor, Strange Nature gin.

The fast-growing New Zealand gin brand, based on Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc grapes, has struck its first Australian distribution partnership. Robert Oatley Vineyards, one of Australia’s leading independent premium wine and spirit merchants, began introducting Strange Nature into bars, restaurants and bottle shops across Australia from last month.

“Due to Strange Nature’s traceable NZ wine origins, we think it is a match made in heaven sitting in a portfolio alongside amazing global wine brands such as Piper Heidsieck Champagne, Joseph Drouhin French Burgundy and Giesen New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc,” Strange Nature said

The brand has been making rapid progress in duty free on both sides of the Tasman Sea, gaining listings with Heinemann Australia and Lotte Duty Free. It is also listed with powerful Australia local market retailer Dan Murphy’s.

Strange Nature was developed during the COVID-19  lockdown in New Zealand when Giesen Wines was trialling ways to make zero-alcohol Sauvignon Blanc. It discovered the resultant alcohol extract to have a rich, herbaceous-citrus flavour that would “lend itself so perfectly to gin”.
