Images of the Day: A magic performance at Avolta’s Stockholm Arlanda Duty Free

Our regular feature, brought to you in association with Strange Nature Gin from New Zealand, celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

UAE. Creating entertainment and dwell time in duty-free stores is central to the growth strategy of travel experience player Avolta, and here’s a tremendous example of that plan in action at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, where our images selection comes from today.

Nordic Champion in Magic Julien Dauphin is now a regular entertainer at Avolta’s Arlanda Duty Free store, interacting with passengers with his magic tricks that include making things disappear, including duty-free products and passenger belongings (temporarily, of course).

Now that’s magic: The latest highly entertaining appearance from Nordic Champion in Magic Julien Dauphin outside the Avolta Arlanda Duty Free store at Stockholm Arlanda Airport

Swede national Dauphin has more than 4 million subscribers on YouTube, making him the world’s largest magician in subscription terms on the video channel, where he has received YouTube’s ‘Oscar statue’ and the ‘Gold Play Button’.

He is a regular visitor to Stockholm Arlanda Airport, as he travels to perform around the world. His highest-profile performances include the Cannes Film Festival, for the Swedish Royal Court and about 25 shows at The Magic Castle in Hollywood.

Dauphin has now stopped by the Arlanda Duty Free store on several occasions to delight passengers as a guest of Avolta and airport operator Swedavia, and our images come from his latest appearance.

His act includes close-up magic tricks, often involving products vanishing. Examples include a lipstick from the duty-free store that was originally in one passenger’s hand then appearing in the hand of their travel companion, and passengers’ rings and watches finding their way into, for a short time, the magician’s pocket.

Dauphin is sometimes accompanied at the airport by Peter Siepen, one of Sweden’s most famous TV personalities, and also a DJ and health guru.

Siepen visits the main Arlanda Duty Free store a couple of times each month to interact with passengers, promote the Avolta loyalty programme Red by Dufry and participate in duty-free promotions, as well as play music. He interviews Dauphin and other visiting entertainers via his microphone, with the sound amplified by the duty-free store speakers.
