Images of the Day: Battling for shopper attention in duty free at Bogotá Airport

Our regular feature, brought to you in association with Strange Nature Gin from New Zealand, celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

COLOMBIA. Today’s selection of images comes from Bogotá El Dorado International Airport, as delegates depart from a memorable ASUTIL Conference in the city on 19-20 June.

Our photos depict the offer in the airport’s dual departures stores, Attenza Duty Free by Motta Internacional and Bogotá Duty Free by Avolta, which face each other across the aisle once travellers come through security.

As is often the case with dual departures offers just feet from one another, each retailer thrusts its big promotional campaigns to the fore. In this case, Avolta is heavily signalling -20% off fragrances, multi-purchase deals on spirits and its consistently popular campaign to win a sports vehicle. Attenza in turn has partnered with Diageo brand Johnnie Walker to lean into the Copa America football tournament that has just begun in the USA, alongside its own bundle price deals on spirits and other categories.

Attenza Duty Free (Motta Internacional)

The main Attenza Duty Free store occupies the larger prime space in departures with a big Copa America football campaign at the entrance

Bogotá Duty Free (Avolta)

A strong wines & spirits offer leads the Avolta presence at El Dorado International, with the company’s sports vehicle promotion also to the fore

Attenza is the larger store by some distance, with generous space for sunglasses, electronics and shop-in-shops for fashion & accessories complementing a vast beauty range. Avolta also plays on the popularity of beauty, and has a wider selection of big spirits names lining its back walls.

Each retailer repeats core elements of the offer in separate stores along the concourse; these sit within a diverse commercial mix at the airport spanning F&B to retail that befits El Dorado International’s status as one of Latin America’s great aviation hubs. ✈
