AUSTRALIA. Today’s images are courtesy of the Heinemann Oceania team at Sydney Airport and show yet another example of the retailer’s outstanding ESG principles.
Heinemann Oceania is proudly supporting NAIDOC Week (7-14 July) – an annual celebration held in the first week of July to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of what is considered to rank as the oldest, continuous living cultures on Earth.
In partnership with Sydney Airport, Heinemann team members and passengers enjoyed the privilege of witnessing a special performance by the Gujaga Foundation’s Gamay Dancers in the retailer’s international departures store.

The Gamay Dancers performed three special dances: Burriburri (Dharawal ancestor humpback whale), Maridha (sea eagle) and Yarraman (arrival of the horse).
In addition, Heinemann offered its team members a complimentary lip balm from Baagi Milaygiin, an Aboriginal-owned and operated brand known for its ethical and sustainable products made with native Australian ingredients.

To close the week, the company hosted a ‘movie night’-themed afternoon featuring the first episode of First Australians on the SBS network.
The episode, called ‘They have come to stay’, takes viewers back to the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet in Sydney, where cautious friendships were struck between the First Australians and representatives of the British Empire.
Subsequent history would prove far less friendly. ✈
