Peated Reserve: A new addition to the Islay Mist portfolio |
MacDuff International is to release the latest addition to its Islay Mist range of blended Scotch whiskies at TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.
Islay Mist Peated Reserve was created by second generation Master Blender Gilmour Burnett. The company said he remained faithful to the almost 100 years of tradition of Islay Mist, with Peated Reserve “maintaining the brand’s signature balance between Islay malt and softer mainland whiskies, but with an extra smokey kick”.
The whisky is presented in a premium bottle previously only used for Islay Mist 12yo and Islay Mist 17yo, featuring the 1,000 year old Great Seal of Islay embossed on the neck.
Burnett said: “It is a real challenge and responsibility when coming up with a new interpretation of such an iconic, historic blend as Islay Mist. In many ways Islay Mist is the ideal example of what a good blended Scotch whisky should be, taking characteristics from different styles of whisky and regions of Scotland but producing a balanced, pleasing result that enhances the qualities of its component parts.”
Islay Mist blended Scotch was originally created on the Scottish island of Islay in 1922 to celebrate the 21st birthday of Lord Margadale.
The company said: “It was thought that the local single malt Scotch, Laphroaig, might be too heavy for all the guests’ tastes so this blend of Laphroaig with Speyside malts and grain whisky was born. What was achieved was a perfect synthesis of the unmistakable notes of peat, smoke and sea air found in Islay Malts and the smoother, sweeter hints of Speyside Malts.”
Customers will be able to see and order the new presentation for the first time at TFWA Cannes 2013, Stand L56, Green Village.
