JD.com extends tax refund service to overseas travellers across more than 100 China stores

JD.com’s expanded tax refund service enables international travellers to claim tax refunds up to 9% across its locations in China’s key tourism and commercial hubs

JD.com has extended tax refund services to international visitors in China across 106 designated in-store counters throughout 39 cities nationwide.

The initiative allows eligible overseas customers to claim a tax refund of up to 9% when shopping at JD MALL and JD Electronics & Appliances City Flagship stores. To qualify, visitors must make a single-day purchase of RMB200 (US$27.88) or more and present valid identification at one of 106 authorised in-store refund counters.

The tax refund is available at key travel and commercial hubs, including Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Kunming, Chongqing, Suzhou, Xi’an, Dalian, Qingdao, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Dongguan and Yiwu.

Travellers can now enjoy tax refunds on over 50,000 products across more than 100 categories, including consumer electronics, household appliances, beauty products and home essentials at JD Mall and JD Electronics & Appliances.

According to the retailer, the stores represent JD.com’s distinctive approach to offline retail and offer immersive, digitally integrated, one-stop shopping experiences.

According to JD.com, high-tech portable devices have emerged as the top sellers among overseas shoppers. Smartphones, laptops, smartwatches, drones, projectors, electric toothbrushes, massage equipment, hair dryers and robotic vacuum cleaners have proven especially popular.

“We have introduced multilingual signage, detailed tax refund guides and bilingual announcements throughout our stores to help international shoppers easily access the service,” said a JD MALL spokesperson. “Customers can either pick up their purchases in-store or opt for complimentary delivery to their hotels.”
