JAPAN. Outbound sales at Japanese travel agent JTB Corp rose +2.6% to Â¥34.21 billion in June, thanks to year-on-year increases of +9.2% in planned product sales and +4.6% in FIT sales, according to the JTB’s monthly sales report.
It reported that, of the planned products, JTB Look and media-product sales gained +9.3% and +20.9% respectively.
The number of customers purchasing overseas travel products slipped -2.7% year-on-year in June, due to negative growth in visitors to China (down -42.8%) and South Korea (-25.3%). Destinations that posted significant year-on-year gains included Taiwan (up +103.1%), Hong Kong (+49.1%) and Hawaii (+5.3%).
Consolidated sales for the month rose +3.6% from a year ago to ¥107.42 billion. Sales from the inbound travel sector rocketed +200.1% to ¥732 million.
Total sales for the first three months of fiscal 2005 (April-June) grew +2.7% from the corresponding period a year earlier to ¥317.44 billion, including ¥95.54 billion (up +5.5%) in outbound travel, ¥220.18 billion (+1.6%) in domestic travel and ¥1.71 billion (down -5.7%) in inbound travel.
