JTI expands network of Smoking Lounges and opens a shop-in-shop at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport – 14/03/08

RUSSIA. JT International (JTI), a member of the Japan Tobacco Group, has unveiled two new Winston Smoking Lounges at Moscow Sheremetyevo I International Airport. The new lounges add to the existing smoking stations in Sheremetyevo II.

One smoking lounge is located inside the Dufry duty free shop in T1. The other is on the main terminal concourse airside.

Through the new lounges Sheremetyevo joins other airports such as Athens, Bali, Zürich, Kiev, Ho Chi Minh City and Morocco, providing passengers with a relaxing environment to take a break before boarding.

“Allowing smokers to smoke, while respecting the rights of non-smokers, is a top priority for JTI,” said Edouard Touma, JTI’s outgoing Vice President for Worldwide Duty Free.

“Over the last three years smoking lounges and stations, pioneered and driven by JTI, have had a tremendous success in major European and Asian airports, where the travellers’ wellbeing is a priority. Russia is a key market where JTI rolls out the exciting concept,” he added.

The Smoking Lounges concept is designed to accommodate both smokers and non-smokers. The state-of-the-art units are equipped with a custom-designed ventilation system.

By end of 2008 JTI will be in a total of 17 international airports with 45 lounges and over 200 smoking stations, reaching 200 million passengers per year, said the company.
