Kappé Chairman Jacques Parson: “The opening of this megastore is a great moment. This year Kappé celebrates its 55th anniversary and it is fantastic to mark that occasion with such an impressive new shop at Schiphol.” |
NETHERLANDS. A powerful retail combination between Kappé and KLM Tax Free Services will open a massive 1,000sq m travel retail superstore for perfume, cosmetics, liquor and tobacco at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on 2 March.
The new store will be Schiphol’s largest and will be sited in the newly-designed and renovated lounge 1.
Kappé Chairman Jacques Parson said: “The opening of this megastore is a great moment. This year Kappé celebrates its 55th anniversary and it is fantastic to mark that occasion with such an impressive new shop at Schiphol.
“It is the biggest shop at the airport and one that will be matched with the best assortment and retail service standards. It also represents the growth achieved by the airport and how we have grown in partnership together.”
The new store is not the first co-operation between Kappé Schiphol and KLM Tax Free Services. Seven years ago the two partners opened a combination store in lounge three (also known as the West lounge), which has proved highly successful.
About Lounge 1
Lounge 1 at Schiphol, also known as the Schengen lounge, is being completely renovated with the total surface area expanded from 12,000sq m to 14,500sq m.
The concept behind the new design is to separate the retail area into three buying behaviour situations: “˜Run, Fun and Surprise’. The new combination store is located in the ‘run’ area so travellers can quickly and easily purchase the core items first.
Kappé said that such retail space has allowed its design team a great opportunity to create something different. For example, it has separated the women’s and men’s product ranges. A ‘men’s world’ has been created that allows a fast and easy product selection from a broad range.
Technical features
Impressive flat screens draw the attention of the passengers, communicating promotions, sales and services information.
The new store is unique in applying the “˜Narrow Casting’ system which allows tailored digital messages that can communicate to various target groups. ‘Scan kiosks’ have also been set up as ‘information pillars’ to provide travellers with the latest information on products, prices, promotions and services.
