King Power Traveler builds on growing China business with Viva Macau inflight concession – 26/06/07

CHINA (MACAU). King Power Traveler Company (KPT) has secured a full duty free concession onboard Viva Macau.

Viva Macau is Macau’s second airline after Air Macau (for which KPT is exclusive supplier to onboard concessionaire King Power).

KPT President Rakhita Jayawardena (left) said: “Macau has become the Las Vegas of Asia and travel is booming, particularly from mainland China. This agreement is a big boost to our regional expansion and we plan to deliver Air Macau’s passengers with a dynamic, innovative retail programme.”

The long-term inflight agreement is a further boost for KPT after it recently secured inflight concession contracts with two of Hong Kong’s newest carriers, Oasis Hong Kong Airlines and Hong Kong Airlines. Both full concessions begin on 1 July.

KPT Chairman Antares Cheng told The Moodie Report: “We are delighted to extend our presence in Macau where we are the dominant duty free player. Viva Macau is a vibrant new force and we intend to complement its growth with the right onboard offer.”

Viva Macau plans a fast-expanding international network of services from Macau International Airport, opening new routes for Macau and the Pearl River Delta. It is operating a fleet of Boeing 767 wide-body jetliners, with up to 245 seats in a two-class configuration. From its original fleet of two 767s, it is building up to 10 to 15 aircraft within five years.

Viva Macau plans a range of non-stop services from Macau to cities as far away as Moscow, Sydney or Milan. From August it will fly Sydney to Macau three times a week, adding to existing flights to the Maldives and Jakarta, Indonesia.
