Krug Champagne plans luxury escapes with limited-edition €450,000 trunk collection – 30/05/08

HONG KONG/SINGAPORE. Champagne house Krug has teamed up with bespoke trunk-maker Pinel & Pinel to create a limited edition of 30 handmade trunks, of which only two trunks are available in Asia Pacific. They premiere at Singapore Changi and Hong Kong International airports.

The Krug Escape Artist Collection consists of three different trunk designs, each of which is covered and lined in fine leather. Each also contains, in addition to two bottles of Krug, its owner’s ‘preferred means of escape’ – through gambling, cigar-smoking or music.

The first trunk design features a red calfskin exterior and brown calfskin lining; a drawer contains two packs of poker cards, five casino dice and 200 professional 11g chips, while the doors house two bottles of Krug Grande Cuvée

The first trunk design features a red calfskin exterior with shiny nickel-plated brass hinges and corners with brown calfskin lining. A drawer contains two packs of poker cards made by “˜Bee’, five casino dice and 200 professional 11g chips, while the doors house two bottles of Krug Grande Cuvée.

The Krug Escape Artist Trunk also contains four Baccarat crystal glasses, a Krug stopper and a Krug champagne cooler, created exclusively for the collection by leading designer François Bauchet. Lastly, a secret drawer holds four Pinel & Pinel nickel-plated brass coasters with leather base.

Measuring 47cm (height) x 26.5cm (width) x 36cm (depth), the trunk is said to weigh no more than 17kg with contents. The trunks retail at €15,000 each.

Moët Hennessy Asia Pacific has made one trunk each of this design available at the DFS Wine Shop in Singapore Changi Airport’s Terminal 3 and Sky Connection in Hong Kong International Airport.

The second trunk design features a blue lambskin exterior and off-white calfskin lining. It pairs a cigar holder, XCAR cigar cutter and DuPont cigar lighter with two bottles of Krug 1995.

The third Krug Escape Artist Trunk has a silver lambskin exterior and pink calfskin lining. Contained within are a state-of-the-art Samsung T9 MP3 video player with Bluetooth technology and a JBL ‘On Tour Plus’ sound system, alongside two bottles of Krug Rosé.

Not available in Asia Pacific, the second and third trunk designs also contain four Baccarat crystal glasses, a Krug stopper, a Krug champagne cooler and the four hidden coasters. Also measuring 47cm (height) x 26.5cm (width) x 36cm (depth), they weigh no more than 15kg with contents.

Founded in 1843 by Johann-Joseph Krug, the house of Krug has since been cultivated by six generations of the Krug family. The house offers a range of five champagnes: Krug Grande Cuvée, Krug Rosé, Krug Vintage, Krug Collection and Krug Clos du Mesnil.

Founded in Paris in 1998, Pinel & Pinel initially specialised in small leather goods in bright colours and materials like shagreen and crocodile skin. The success of these items is said to have enabled Fred Pinel to develop his passion for trunk-making. Inspired by the 1930s’ art of travel, his bespoke trunks aim to combine traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge design. The company created the first Krug Trunk in 2005.
