La Mer marks World Oceans Day with Oceana partnership

INTERNATIONAL. La Mer is marking World Oceans Day (celebrated today, 8 June) by continuing its partnership with Oceana, the world’s largest international ocean advocacy organisation. The brand has worked with Oceana since 2005, to promote ocean protection and restoration in recognition of La Mer’s founder, Dr Max Huber.

La Mer’s limited-edition, commemorative ocean-inspired jar is available in selected travel retail doors throughout June

The brand has created a limited-edition 100ml World Oceans Day Crème, presented in a commemorative ocean-inspired jar. It will be available in selected travel retail locations worldwide throughout the month of June. In addition, La Mer will make a US$200,000 donation to Oceana in support of its Habitat Protection Campaign, and other global initiatives for ocean conservation.

La Mer is committed to preserving the oceans, which provide the nutrient-rich sea kelp used by Huber to develop Crème de La Mer’s Miracle Broth. La Mer sustainably harvests the top section of sea kelp to maintain the underwater forest ecosystem and protect future generations of the marine plant.

Seven Seas Sound Mix
Furthermore, La Mer has partnered with Soundwalk to celebrate World Oceans Day by creating the Seven Seas Sound Mix, a sea-inspired iPhone/iPad application available on iTunes as of 8 June.

The mix is described as a sound journey across oceans from around the world in the company of seven sea-conscious individuals: world leading British solo sailor Samantha Davies, British adventurer and environmentalist David De Rothschild, Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi, French actress Melanie Laurent, Chinese actor Liu Ye, world champion free diver Guillaume Nery and French designer Philippe Starck.

The mix is composed of seven sonic pieces, featuring interviews with each personality, accompanied by sounds and music collected on location by Soundwalk. Each mix is illustrated with photos and videos of the talent shot on site.

This exclusive mix aims to provide a sensory seascape with an underlying message of sustainability and ocean awareness, in honour of La Mer’s sea heritage and partnership with Oceana.

Oceana Successes in Belize
Last year’s World Oceans Day campaign supported Oceana’s global expansion in Belize. As a direct result of Oceana’s work in the country, Belize’s government announced a ban on all forms of trawling resulting in the protection of precious corals and marine life in the region.

Vice President for Oceana in Belize Audrey Matura-Shepherd described the achievement as a historic milestone, and indicative of the partnership that could be forged for the betterment of the people and country of Belize.

More about World Oceans Day
Created in 1992 and made official by the United Nations in 2009, World Oceans Day takes place annually on 8 June. It serves as a time to recognise the importance of the sea as a vital ecosystem and to take action to preserve its delicate habitats and wildlife. With more than 300,000 members in 150 countries, Oceana has greatly reduced over-fishing and protected threatened marine habitats with its science-based policies. Lastly, in other news, La Mer has created a new, larger size of its Moisturizing Gel Cream, said to be ideal for warm-weather climates and occasions when La Mer may be considered too rich. The 500ml presentation is available now only at Dubai Duty Free.
