GERMANY. Lagardère Travel Retail is set to boost its presence at Hamburg Airport after winning a foodservice tender to open four new food & beverage offerings by 2024.
The international travel retail group will open a Burger King, a White Monkey Pizza Lab & Bar and a Kaimug Taste Thai. It will also rebuild the existing Marché, turning it into a new Mediterranean food court spanning over 300sq m.
The latest win builds on Lagardère Travel Retail’s opening of vegan and vegetarian salad bar and grab-and-go concept Natoo in October and its 100% acquisition of the Marché restaurant group in February.

Lagardère Travel Retail Germany CEO Jochen Halfmann said, “We are very thrilled with the trust placed in us by Hamburg Airport and the growing partnership we share. We are excited to bring various food service formats to the airport, showcasing our food expertise.”
White Monkey Pizza Lab & Bar will span over 220sq m. The hand-stretched sourdough pizza restaurant originally had a popular city centre outpost in Leipzig, Germany. It is now being reimagined for airports with bright retro décor, a cocktail bar and oblong pizzas that are sent to each table with scissors to slice.

The new Burger King will offers an extensive menu of 60 of the chain’s most popular products, including the classic Whopper and a strong selection of plant-based burgers and wraps.
Kaimug Taste Thai will bring an authentic and fresh Thai cuisine experience to the airport. Meaning ‘pearl’ in Thai, Kaimug aims to showcase the hidden pearls of southeast Asian cuisine with curries, crisp-fried wok dishes and classics such as Pad Thai, Tom Kha Gai soups and coconut shrimp bites.
In the landside area of Hamburg Airport Level 3, Marché will serve fresh market cuisine including focaccias and homemade pastas, a variety of tapas and live cooking demos.
Head of Centre Management Hamburg Airport Lutz Deubel said, “We were impressed by the holistic, modern concept that will enrich our food world. The individual catering units are so different that our passengers are guaranteed to leave nothing to be desired. Our aim is for everyone to find something to suit them at Hamburg Airport – from a burger on-the-go to a balanced meal.”

Lagardère Travel Retail Germany will operate a total of 14 foodservice outlets and four Travel Essentials stores at Hamburg Airport by the end of 2024.
