Lagardère Travel Retail, Casualfood and SSP capture food & beverage contracts at Düsseldorf Airport

GERMANY. Düsseldorf Airport has awarded its latest food & beverage contracts to Lagardère Travel Retail, Casualfood and SSP following a Europe-wide tender. The concessions cover 12 outlets overall, which will begin opening from Spring 2026.

Düsseldorf Airport Chairman of the Management Board Lars Redeligx said: “Our goal is to rank among the top airports in Europe for passenger volumes of up to 30 million. Delivering exceptional gastronomy and an outstanding guest experience for our passengers, visitors, and staff is key to achieving this vision. We have now greenlit the innovative expansion of this area.”

When selecting its partners, the airport company cited a focus on quality, variety, regional authenticity and location-specific initiatives as key.

“We found it equally important to offer a diverse and premium takeaway section, along with digital services that are meaningful to our guests,” stated Head of Commercial Operations Pia Klauck.

“We are particularly pleased that we are trendsetters for several concepts, including new brands and target groups. This is a confirmation by our partners: DUS is leading the way.”

The new restaurant line-up features up-and-coming international brands that are expanding into Germany and choosing Düsseldorf Airport as their first location in the travel space.

Examples include the Slim Chickens franchise, known for its fast food chicken dishes, which Casualfood is introducing to the airport.

Lagardère Travel Retail is opening its first Popeyes in Germany, with a unit in the arrivals area, as well as two outlets for franchise brand bona’me, which hails from the Rhine-Ruhr region, and serves modern Kurdish-Turkish cuisine.

EL & N London in the departures hall is designed with a young audience in mind. The lifestyle franchise, found in major cities around the world, focuses on design and ‘Instagrammability’.

Rheinbissen, also by Lagardère, will offer typical Rheinland hospitality and dishes such as Düsseldorf Onion and Mustard Burger. With Papa Pepe, Lagardère will also introduce a concept design to reflect the energy of Naples’ streets.

The Mionetto Prosecco Bar – a collaboration between Casualfood and Henkell Freixenet – is set to become a new meeting point in the terminal with a site directly in front of the large escalator in the departure hall.

A further venue to be operated as a collaborative project is the new conference centre, at which Casualfood will work with meeting and event expert memox for the first time.

In addition, well-known bakery franchise Kamps will have two units operated by SSP. The bakery concept will mark the premiere of its new architectural design, which includes the latest building materials, digital menu boards and LCD screens. Goodman & Filippo at Gate A, a well-established casual food concept, is also being redesigned.

Düsseldorf Airport Head of Commercial Anja Dauser said: “We are proud that our long-standing and successful partnerships with Casualfood and SSP are moving into the future at the largest airport in North Rhine-Westphalia, and we are delighted to welcome Lagardère as a strong partner with new gastronomy concepts as well.”

“We are thrilled that Düsseldorf Airport has placed its trust in our long-standing successful partnership, and we are proud of the German premiere of our world- leading retail and gastronomy concepts in Düsseldorf. It is our goal to create an exceptional experience at every touchpoint that meets the needs of travellers perfectly and with local flair. This collaboration is an important milestone in our national growth strategy,” said Lagardère Travel Retail Germany CEO Jochen Halfmann.

“We are delighted to be represented with four gastronomic concepts,” said Casualfood CEO Andreas Förster.

“In addition to our Italian-American deli restaurant Goodman & Filippo, which is getting a completely new look and feel with the new contract, we and our strong partners are delivering even more variety to the airport: Mionetto Prosecco Bar for delicious times with an Italian flavour, memox providing the perfect setting for meetings and events, and Slim Chickens is our way of bringing authentic Southern fare to a German airport for the first time.”

SSP DACH Managing Director Wenzel Bürger said: “SSP and its well-established partner Kamps are excited to present the newly developed young and fresh design of the two Kamps bakeries to travellers. The classic Kamps F&B offer will be enhanced by appealing new vegan and vegetarian snacks and innovative digitalisation tools.”

When all 12 venues are in operation, it will mark the end of a five-year period in which Düsseldorf Airport has reinvented much of its F&B offer. The upgrades started with White Monkeys at Gate A, continued with Amore and LeCrobag at Gate B, the Marché Bistro at Gate C and, most recently, Burger Federation, LeCrobag and Dunkin’ in the shopping mall.

As reported, Lagardère Travel Retail recently won a major tender for the books and press, souvenirs and convenience master concession, spanning 11 units. ‍
