Lagardère Travel Retail transforms Hamburg Airport F&B offer with four new venues

GERMANY. Lagardère Travel Retail has revealed four new food & beverage outlets at Hamburg Airport Terminal 1, delivering in style on its foodservice tender win announced in November last year.

They include proprietary concepts Marché Bistro and White Monkey Pizza Lab & Bar plus franchise offers Kaimug Taste Thai and Burger King.

The 161-seat Marché Bistro occupies a prominent T1 landside space exceeding 300sq m, offering panoramic airfield views and a live cooking area.

Describing the venue, Lagardère Travel Retail said: “Marché Bistro is inspired by the market halls of southern Europe, picks up on the Mediterranean lifestyle and is an experience for all the senses.”

Italian favourites are prominent on the menu including focaccia featuring mortadella and pistacchio, antipasti and pasta (such as Bolognese, Pesto Verde, Shrimp and Tomato).

Spanish influences on the menu include tapas and sweet treats such as cakes and pastries, which are created in the view of guests.

Homemade lemonades, coffee specialties and fresh juices are among the Marché Bistro drinks offer highlights.

Set in over 220sq m of space, the White Monkey Pizza Lab & Bar brings a smart new dining experience featuring numerous artworks to Hamburg Airport

The second proprietary concept, White Monkey Pizza Lab & Bar, is located in the passenger pier at Gate A17/18. It has 98 seats and also offers airfield views.

Divided into two parts, the venue has a takeaway and self-service area plus a full-service restaurant area.

The takeaway element offers baked goods such as panini and focaccia sandwiches, fresh fruits, salads and homemade drinks.

The restaurant offers pizza creations from classic (such as Salami or Real Italy, with ham and mushrooms) and BBQ Chicken to sweet (for example apple with brie).

Lagardère Travel Retail said the pizzas “surprise with their recipe, shape and presentation” and are served on a wooden board with scissors.

The pizza offer is complemented by fresh salads. There is also a breakfast menu featuring individually prepared egg dishes.

White Monkey’s bar serves fine wines and cocktails, including classics such as Caipirinha and Mojito, as well as non-alcoholic options.

American burger brand Burger King (which offers 24 seats) and Kaimug Taste Thai (40 seats) are located opposite each other in the food court immediately after security in Terminal 1.

Kaimug offers authentic Thai cuisine including classics such as Pad Thai or Pad Krapao. Also available are Thai curries, crispy wok dishes and finger food including Wan Tan, spring rolls and saté skewers.

Lagardère Travel Retail noted all food served at Kaimug is free from additives and glutamate, full of fresh ingredients and offers a “treat for the palate”. Many of the dishes are vegetarian or vegan.

The Kaimug drinks menu includes homemade lemonades, iced teas and mango lassi, a creamy yoghurt-based drink from India made with mango, milk, sugar and cardamom.

Lagardère Travel Retail Germany CEO Jochen Halfmann told The Moodie Davitt Report: “With the opening of the four new locations at Hamburg Airport, we have reached another important milestone for Lagardère Travel Retail Germany.

“Our highly motivated team has developed a convincing and innovative overall concept that ideally serves the needs of the various target and traveller groups at the airport.

“With our mix of successful concepts, such as a full-service restaurant, we want to inspire guests at Hamburg Airport every day and offer them a unique gastronomic experience.

“This has worked very well and the  early feedback from our guests has been consistently positive.”

Speaking to The Moodie Davitt Report, Hamburg Airport Managing Director Berit Schmitz commented: “Our aim was to offer our passengers a new culinary variety that perfectly reflects the changing food culture.

“For this reason, we organised the largest catering tender of the past ten years last year and won Lagardère Travel Retail, a long-standing airport partner who impressed us with a creative, holistic concept.

“As an airport, we are a place where very different people come together every day, and the key is to develop an offer that appeals to the public at large but also fulfils individual needs. With our new catering world, we have managed this balancing act perfectly.”

Lagardère Travel Retail now operates nine stores at the airport across its three main business lines, including the four new concepts.

In food service, it also operates natoo (vegan and vegetarian bowl concept with fresh bowls, wraps, burgers and homemade drinks) landside in the Airport Plaza, Level 1.

In the travel essentials segment, there is a Relay Store in Terminal 1 landside and two tech2go stores, as reported, in the airside area.

The portfolio is completed by a fashion store named Falke, which opened in an airside space in August last year. ‍
