Layam-Sakal Group captures latest retail concessions at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion

ISRAEL. Layam-Sakal Group has won the concession to operate three new stores at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport. The travel retailer will operate a duty free toy store, a duty free children’s fashion & accessories store plus a duty paid toy store, in a combined 450sq m of space. The annual turnover of these new shops is estimated at around ILS35 million (US$9 million).

These shops are in addition to the group’s three existing food & confectionery units at the airport.

Layam-Sakal President Meir Sakal said that the stores would open in the next 60 days. He said that new ranges from leading brand Mattel would be part of the toy stores’ offer.

Sakal Group (owned by brothers Soly and Meir Sakal, with Layam-Sakal the duty free division) is the sole importer of Mattel in Israel. Sakal Group operates around 150 its own shops plus 1,000 further retail points of sale on the domestic market.

Meir Sakal said the new store openings are “strategic to the whole Sakal Group, which is an importer and distributor for the biggest fashion houses, like Nautica, Timberland, Polo Ralph Lauren and many others. These will be included in the assortment of the airport shops.”
