Le Grand Tour: Diptyque launches 60th anniversary range into travel retail

French fragrance house Diptyque has marked the latest stage of its 60th anniversary celebrations with the limited edition Le Grand Tour collection. It was launched in global travel retail on 26 August.

Le Grand Tour is Diptyque’s fourth limited edition release this year and comprises five different scents. It was inspired by the spirit of travel and by five places: Paris, Venice, Milies, Kyoto and Byblos.

Le Grand Tour begins at ‘Kilometre Zero’, the starting point from which all roads in France are measured and not too far from Diptyque’s home in 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain. Created by perfumer Olivia Giacobetti, the 190g Paris candle is a tribute to the French capital. It blends essence of myrrh, with accords of old books, wood patina and Paris stone. The glass holder features a dark green hue, a rose emblem and a black wood lid.

The next stop is Venice, Italy. The Venise fragrance, developed by perfumer Cécile Matton combines basil, green bell pepper, vetiver and tomato notes. The scent is an ode to the Italian summertime and comes in three travel-sized bottles and a special carrying pouch.

Milies, a village near Mount Pelion in Greece, is also featured. Mount Pelion was a frequent holiday destination for Diptyque’s founders and serves as the inspiration for the Milies scented oval. Milies was created by perfumer Olivier Pescheux and combines Immortelle Absolute, Ambroxan, fig wood accord and cypress notes. The scented oval features a sea-inspired colour-way and is decorated with a tassel and a string of marble beads.

Le Grand Tour continues in Kyoto, Japan, which served as a constant reference point for the maison over the years. The Kyoto edp was created by perfumer Alexandra Carlin and blends incense, Turkish Rose, vetiver and beetroot accord. The bottle comes wrapped in a special Japanese ‘furoshiki’ technique with a fabric featuring an archive print designed by Diptyque’s founders.

The journey concludes at the coastal city of Byblos in Lebanon, which features a scented candle created by perfumer Fabrice Pellerin. The Byblos candle combines coffee notes with Atlas Cedar, white musks and essence of Cardamom. The glass holder was produced using a ceramic mixed clay technique.

As reported, Diptyque has also released the limited edition Summer Essentials line and Orphéon Eau de Parfum into global travel retail as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations.

The collection is Diptyque’s fourth limited release this year and comprises five different scents inspired by five cities: (1) Paris, (2) Venice, (3) Milies, (4) Kyoto and (5) Byblos
