Leading chef Heston Blumenthal to open restaurant at Heathrow T2

New venture: Heston Blumenthal at Heathrow T2

UK. Award winning chef Heston Blumenthal will launch a new restaurant at Heathrow Terminal 2: The Queen’s Terminal when it opens in June 2014.

The concept and menu are currently being developed and will feature meals inspired by the chef’s “˜In Search of Perfection’ TV series. Heathrow Airport said the restaurant “will showcase Heston’s love for nostalgia and celebrate his pride of all things British, including our much loved and familiar dishes”.

Blumenthal said: “This is an incredible project. There are so many different elements to consider when people are travelling. We want to deliver a broad spectrum of easy to enjoy, familiar dishes from fish and chips to pizza. When we made the “˜In Search of Perfection’ series we spent hours researching the temperature of a pizza oven or the crunch of batter; it’s this inspiration that is behind the menu at Heathrow – with some British eccentricity thrown in for good measure.”

Heathrow Retail Director Muriel Zingraff-Shariff said: “Our brand new £2.5 billion terminal will not only showcase the best of the UK’s art and engineering talent, but also one of its greatest culinary minds. This new restaurant will introduce a unique and original dimension to the airport eating experience at Heathrow.”

Heathrow Airport said that Terminal 2 will be “a spacious, open terminal with multi-lingual ambassadors and personal shoppers on hand to help customers make the most of their journey”.

The terminal is the next major step in the transformation of Heathrow, after the opening of Terminal 5 and the refurbishment of terminals 1, 3 and 4.

The new restaurant will be identifiably British with touches of nostalgia, says the airport (pictured is a restaurant in Terminal 2 in the 1950s)
