USA. Lehigh Valley International Airport has become the first airport in Pennsylvania to implement GoodMaps, an advanced indoor navigation platform designed to enhance accessibility and improve passenger experience.
The technology uses LiDAR mapping to deliver detailed guidance and accessibility features. They include audio navigation for blind and low-vision travellers; visual cues for deaf and hard-of-hearing users; automatic step-free routing for wheelchair passengers; and multilingual support in more than 18 languages.
The launch was marked by a community event featuring live navigation demonstrations, technology displays and participation from Pennsylvania disability advocacy groups.

They included the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania, The Arc of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, the Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living and regional representatives of the American Foundation for the Blind.
GoodMaps’ platform requires no beacons or sensor installations and allows airport staff to update terminal information in real time through the GoodMaps Studio system.
Travellers can also preview the terminal layout and amenities before arriving via interactive web maps.
By offering independent navigation and reducing reliance on passenger assistance, the airport said the platform enhances universal access and supports broader engagement with its retail and dining operations.

Lehigh Valley International Airport Executive Director Thomas R. Stoudt said, “As a customer-centric organisation, the airport is committed to building a safe and superior travel experience with outstanding resources like GoodMaps.
“While navigating through larger hub airports can feel complex and overwhelming, Lehigh Valley International Airport is focused on what matters most – ensuring all passengers can navigate our terminal with minimal stress and total independence.”
Lehigh Valley International Airport serves Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley region with nonstop services from Allegiant, American, Delta and United to 15 destinations across the USA.
GoodMaps, founded in 2019 in partnership with the American Printing House for the Blind, provides LiDAR-based indoor mapping and AI-powered positioning technology for airports, universities, healthcare facilities and public spaces worldwide. ✈
