Loch Lomond Group extends The Open partnership with activations at key Scotland airports

Loch Lomond Group reaffirms its position as the official spirit of The Open, continuing its partnership with The R&A (The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) dating back to 2018

Loch Lomond Whiskies, official spirit partner of The Open Championship, which concluded on Sunday, has taken the excitement of the Royal Troon event airside with immersive activations at Edinburgh, Glasgow and Glasgow Prestwick airports running throughout July. 

As reported, the independent distiller partnered with The Moodie Davitt Report to host an exciting reader competition in the run-up to the championship (look out for the results later today). 

This was extended with a striking makeover of The Moodie Davitt Report desktop homepage along with an elegantly curated treatment of our mobile website. 

Known as ‘The One’, The Open stands as one of the world’s most-prestigious sporting events, broadcast to 600 million households across nearly 200 countries. 

Last year, Loch Lomond expanded its partnership to include Ben Lomond Gin as the official gin of The Open.  

Both Loch Lomond Whiskies and Ben Lomond Gin will support the AIG Women’s Open (22-25 August), highlighting the group’s commitment to both men’s and women’s golf.

The supporting activations at key Scotland airports bring the spirit of The Open to passengers, offering sampling opportunities for Loch Lomond Whiskies. 

The tastings include expressions from The Open Course collection, as well as The Open Special Edition – both served neat to highlight the core flavour profile and distinctive cask finishes. 

Brand ambassadors invite passersby to taste exclusive Loch Lomond Whiskies

Each year, Loch Lomond Whiskies introduces exclusive editions tied to The Open. For 2024, the distiller presented two limited releases. 

The Open Special Edition 2024 is a single malt crafted in collaboration with golf ambassador Colin Montgomerie to commemorate the 152nd Open. 

Aged in American Oak and finished in Chardonnay wine casks, it features notes of honey blossom, orchard fruit and toasted oak with a subtle smoky finish. Each bottle is signed by Montgomerie and available at a retail selling price of £45 (US$58.12).

Additionally, Loch Lomond introduced The Open Course Collection, with a retail selling price of £290 (US$374.57). This rare 24-year-old single malt Scotch whisky was distilled in 2000 using Loch Lomond’s straight neck pot stills alongside traditional swan neck stills.

Matured in American oak and finished in Manzanilla sherry butts, the whisky has a complex profile with notes of baked apple, nutmeg, marzipan and toasted oak. Limited to 4,500 bottles worldwide, this collection targets collectors and connoisseurs alike.
