SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free has rolled out its Summer Vacance marketing campaign featuring the third round of its Young Travel Club membership scheme.
Young Travel Club was designed to secure loyal 20-30 age group shoppers amid a surge in customer numbers from this demographic.
In a notable observation, Lotte Duty Free said Gen Z customers represented 30% of its new members during the first half of the year.

Originally launched in May last year, the paid membership scheme’s first two rounds were sold out within a week.
The loyalty programme gives members access to exclusive benefits and rewards enjoyed by the retailer’s top customers.
Membership is offered on a first-come, first-served basis for KRW300,000 (US$217). Members can redeem benefits and rewards during the three-month period – from the date of registration until 15 October.

Benefits include KRW330,000 (US$239) in LDF Pay that can be used like cash at Lotte Duty Free stores and welcome gifts such as Melixir Vegan Airfit Sunscreen and Dewy Cel Private Care Mask Pack.
Members are entitled to the LDF Travel Mileage service, which allows them to double their earned miles, as well as class upgrade and access to the Star Lounge at the retailer’s flagship store in Myeong-dong.
Customers travelling overseas can also enjoy an array of shopping benefits during the summer season, including an exchange rate compensation offer at its downtown store.
The promotion, which runs until 31 July, includes substantial discounts for Korean customers faced with unfavourable exchange rates.
Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the month, Lotte Duty Free is offering an additional benefit of up to KRW490,000 (US$355) worth of LDF Pay if the store exchange rate exceeds KRW1,320 per US Dollar.
Customers can enjoy benefits worth up to KRW1.64 million (US$1,188) for each purchase amount using LDF PAY and affiliate cards including Naver Pay.
In addition, Lotte Duty Free’s downtown store shoppers can receive up to KRW170,000 (US$123) in Pre LDF Pay on purchases of items in the fashion, jewellery & watches, and leathergoods & accessories categories until 18 August.
The Pre LDF Pay can be used immediately, depending on the purchase amount.
The retailer has also developed promotions and prize giveaways for the summer holiday season. Until 9 September, Korean and foreign customers who have spent a certain amount at the Myeong-dong flagship and World Tower stores will get a chance to win travel packages.
These include an overnight stay voucher that includes access to indoor water park Splash Bay, a dinner voucher for two at Inspire Entertainment Resort’s Chef’s Kitchen and LDF Pay.
From 19 July to 13 August, Korean customers who spent at least US$1 will receive scratch coupons for a chance to win KRW30,000 worth of gift certificates from food delivery app Baedal Minjok.
Lotte Duty Free is also offering members the chance to double their accumulated travel mileage via the LDF Travel Mileage programme until 31 August.
As reported, the retailer launched the LDF Travel Mileage service in January. This allows loyalty programme members to accumulate mileage according to their purchase amounts, as well as offering free gifts for reaching certain tiers.
Throughout the promotional period, LDF Travel Mileage members in Korea who purchased any products from the fashion and jewellery & watches categories at the retailer’s downtown stores will be offered double mileage.
A Lotte Duty Free official said: “The first and second Young Travel Club memberships introduced last year were sold out, and we have started recruiting for the third membership to provide greater benefits to customers. Lotte Duty Free will continue to carry out various marketing activities to secure loyal customers.” ✈
