INTERNATIONAL. ITALY. Italian eyewear giant Luxottica Group has introduced the 2009/2010 eyewear collections for a host of leading fashion brands.
BURBERRY
Burberry introduces its Spring 2010 eyewear collection, inspired by the brand’s heritage in innovation, style and what is termed its “British attitude”.
The new collection references iconic details from the Burberry archive as well as drawing inspiration from the season’s ready-to-wear collections. New styles for the season for women include square oversized acetate sunglasses with printed Burberry check on the temples and rounded oversized styles with accessories-inspired hardware.
Styles are all available in a spring colour palette including black, dark tortoise and trench, with gradient lenses. New styles for men include acetate rectangular sunglasses with a graphic trademark Burberry check printed on the temple and a new rounded aviator style in light acetate.
The colours for the men’s eyewear includes neutral tones of trench, tortoise, grey and black, mirroring the sombre colour palette of the men’s ready-to-wear collections. All styles have metal Burberry logo branding on the temples.
D&G
The D&G 2009/2010 Sun Collection offers “round but rigorous” shapes for both ladies and gents, recalling the decades of the ’70s and ’80s, featuring a strong creative impact and modern appeal. This is “an elegant and fresh collection in which classic lines and colours are refreshed thanks to unexpected splashes of pop colour,” said the company.
Ladies Sun D&G 3041: An acetate model with an ’80s shape with contrasting stripes on the front. The D&G logo is placed on the outside of the temples and on the round under-resin on the inside of the resting hook. Versions include Havana with pink stripes, cream with brown stripes and black with white stripes.
D&G 3048: Acetate frame with squared and rigorous lines; the original pattern on the front reveals the colour of the underlying base. The temples are characterised by the under-resin logo both on the inside and outside of the resting hook. In addition to the classic black, this model is also available in an array of colours such as Havana on green and Havana on purple.
D&G 3047: Acetate model with a broad and square shape that recalls the “˜70s style. This model is revamped with a contemporary feel thanks to its differing colour coupled with black: Flaming Havana and green cubes.
D&G 8063: From the frame to the stems these frames are soft and sinuous, said the company. The injected plastic glasses are made appealing by the special wave print pattern on the temples. An extensive array of refined colours are available, including apple on red and pink on wisteria as well as classic black.
GENTS SUN D&G 3043: A gents’ model with a typical vintage shape, characterised by a double bridge and made completely of acetate. Among the available colours are black, green Havana and red Havana.
D&G 8068: Sunglasses in injected plastic with a slim and masculine shape, D&G logo on the outside of the temples and metal front lining. The colour range includes the classics; black, white and red.
DKNY
For the autumn/winter 2009-2010 season, DKNY is offering 16 acetate and metal models, with a “contemporary and exclusive flair”.
DY 4055: This wide sunglass model is simple and feminine, with clean lines and an essential design. Made of acetate, it is available in a variety of colors, including: tortoiseshell, brown/burgundy and grey/silver.
DY 4056: These sunglasses are made of acetate and sport a square front with high arms. The colours include: dark tortoiseshell with smoke lenses, red with smoke lenses and light tortoiseshell with dark gradient lenses.
DOLCE & GABBANA
The brand’s 2009/2010 Sun collection is said to “reinterpret classic elegance and style, making this brand stand out with its modern twist”.
Ladies Sun DG6056: Plastic injected sunglasses with a broad shape and extremely feminine lines. The temples are in metal embellished by the hinges with the DG monogram. This model is available in different colours ranging from black, Havana to striped red.
DG4076: An acetate model with a feminine and round silhouette. The temples are characterised by the metal logo DG motif on the outside and by an under-resin lining of the resting hooks. Available colours include black, brown and marbled purple.
DG4069: A feminine acetate model with a special butterfly shape. The different thicknesses of the temples and frame, together with the exclusive materials, create the effect of two superimposed pairs of sunglasses through contrasting colours and shapes. Among the available colours are elegant combinations such as Havana top over granite grey, red top on Havana and purple top on striped brown.
DG4068: A feminine model in acetate in “˜80s style characterised by a front frame cut on the sides by an insert that gives these sunglasses a decisive and elegant look. This model stands out for the straight temples with framed logo enriched by the metal monogram inside the resting hooks. The range of colours includes white, red and black.
Gents Sun DG2075: A masculine model with a teardrop-shaped silhouette made entirely in metal. The light and thin frame is characterised by a double bridge with welded metal detail and metal hooks to hold the lenses. The colour range comprises black, silver and gun metal.
DG4071: An acetate model with a particularly masculine shape and a wrap-around and classical line. These sunglasses are characterised by their metal lining with laser engraved logo on the stems and by buckles that work as hinges. Among the available colours are classic black, elegant Havana and striped brown versions.

The new Miu Miu Spring/Summer Eyewear collection features a rich selection of wide and sometimes unexpected styles, unfolding from the contrast between the size of the lenses and the lightness of the frames. It’s a dynamic and feminine collection, combining warm and natural colors with the new gradient smoky, dark brown and green, hazelnut, and purple shades, according to the group.
Sun Collection model SMU01L: This acetate milled frame features a butterfly shape and metal details inspired by vintage. The curved temples are customized with the Prada logo. The sharp and solid colors range from black to dark tortoise, bordeaux, iris and khaki. The colours of the gradient lenses match the frame.
Model SMU02L: Made in milled acetate with sleek cone-shaped temples; the metal Miu Miu logo is photoengraved under varnish. Next to classic solid colours such as black and tortoise, are the gradient shades of purple fading into powder pink, brown fading into light blue or soy yellow.

The Resort/Spring 2010 Sun Collection features the following designs:

Josselyn OV1058S: Features bi-coloured jewel-toned enamel along the top and bottom eye wire. Handcrafted of metal in an oversized lens shape, this design is bold. Fashion gradient lenses in complimenting colours and matching acetate temple tips provide a refined, finished look.

Rees OV5113S: Inspired by oversized rectangular shapes made popular in the seventies by icons such as Tina Turner and Jackie Onassis, the Rees is a bold, glamorous female frame, said the group.
Altman OV5108S: Retro-inspired, masculine sunglass handcrafted of bold, beveled acetate. With substantial temples and a solid, contoured bridge, this frame features VFX Polarized glass or mineral glass lens options.

Among the distinctive traits of the Spring/Summer 2010 collection is Persol’s special celluloid acetate carving, which is the result of a special artisan technique and is used to create exclusive patterns and prints. The 45 models for men and women (39 sunglasses and 6 optical frames) feature iconic elements given a new twist, such as the classic supreme arrow with Meflecto system, tiny metal cylinders on the arm, the logo embossed on the inside of the arm end piece, and the crystal lenses, also available in a polarised version. The frames come in cool neutral shades as well as bold colour combinations and unusual nuances.
PO 2951S: The frames come in a wide assortment of colours with lenses in the same tone or in a contrasting shade, including three versions of black with green and polarized green lenses, three versions of Havana (108/33 – 24/57 – 899/31), midnight blue (826/3R), and wine red (885/51).
PO 2958S: Contemporary flair and a classic spirit combine in these men’s acetate sunglasses with a double bridge decorated with a refined metal detail. The narrow arms add a light, elegant touch. PO 2963S: These frames, which are the women’s version of the PO 2962S frames, have a soft, well-proportioned classic shape. The original metal tag engraved with “Persol 1917” on the inner side of the right arm makes this model even more exclusive. The frames come in classic shades of black (95/58), light Havana (108/51), Havana (24/31 – 24/57), and a fascinating dark purple (897/32).
POLO RALPH LAUREN
The Spring/Summer 2010 eyewear collection includes:
Sun Model PH3046: This model features a wrapping frame with a yellow rubber embellishment injected on the outside of the temples. The fun Polo Player logo is applied on the temple metal surface, appearing on the end-pieces embellishments as well. The thin metal frame makes this model light, young, and modern. The colour sets are matt gun metal with a black, red or yellow rubber embellishment, and matt silver with an olive green rubber embellishment.
Model PH4046: This double laminated acetate eyeglass is particularly milled to make both colours visible on the oversize front, while the thinning temples are embellished by four rivets and the Polo rubber logo varnished on the outside. The colours range from black/green to navy blue/red, and black/yellow.
Model PH4044: This acetate model adds retro elegance to a silhouette that has become an icon in Ralph Lauren collections. This model is embellished by a metal plaque decorating the hinge detail, the temples are embellished by four rivets, and the Polo logo is varnished on the end-pieces outer surface for a classic finish. The palette features a black, honey, red/striped Havana, and dark Havana frame.
PRADA
Model SPR04M: This innovative style features a large squared and rounded shape. The temples display three superimposed rows of metal studs and Prada’s logo, made of the same material. Available in solid colours such as black, tortoise, ruby, blueberry, and ivory.
Model SPR05M: A smooth frame detailed with a feminine and sophisticated design defines this geometrical construction. The temples with a sleek and cone-shaped silhouette are enriched by Prada’s metal logo. This model is available in natural colours, including honey, tortoise, cherry, Baltic blue, and lilac, in addition to classic black.
Model SPR03M: This frame features a large shape reminiscent of 1960s Diva’s charm. The medium-large temples are characterized by Prada’s bas-relief logo. Model VPS51A: This rectangular metal model features a plastic front showing the Prada logo and Prada’s most recognisable red line. This model is functional and comfortable thanks to the antislip rubber in the inside of the ear tip.
Model VPS09A: A milled model in light acetate featuring a sleek cut enhanced by cone-shaped temples and the Prada red line logo. The colours range from black to brown, purple, red and blue.
RALPH LAUREN
Model RL8052: This oversize model evokes a 1950s feel. The metal plaques on the injected temples give these glasses an elegant and stylish touch, thanks to the Ralph Lauren logo varnished on the outside of the temples. The palette ranges from black through classic Havana and a sophisticated ivory.
Model RL8054: The oversize front of this model is emphasized by round shaped lenses and thin temples. The RL hinge comes in golden or silver metal and the palette ranges from the most classic black through dark Havana, red, and antique tortoise.
Model RL7030: The thin metal front is adorned with nylon injected fine temples to guarantee lightness and flexibility. These qualities are emphasised by the stirrup detail on the temple hinge. The frame is available in sophisticated gold, pale gold, brass, and silver shades, whereas the lenses are available in the nuances of grey and brown.
Model PL9768W: Embellished by the Ralph Lauren logo in italics, engraved on a varnished metal plaque on the inside of the right temple. Available in black, classic Havana and tortoise.
VERSACE
The Versace women’s VE4177H sunglasses, with its celebrated classic Greek key motif, comes in a mother of pearl version. The highlighted fret on the arms contrasts against the background of a strong acetate frame. Available in black, tortoiseshell, dark red, opalescent brown and clear blue.
Versace’s oversized model VE4184B for women houses Swarovski crystals that surround the Greek fret motif, positioned distinctly on the arms. Palettes range from classic shades of black and tortoiseshell, to clear violet.
The VE4176 women’s model has an acetate frame, offered in colour combinations including black, dark red, brown and king fisher green, combined with smoky lenses in brown, grey or smoke grey. The Medusa logo is inset within the resin on the arms.
Versace’s VE4183B model for women echoes a 1970s look but with a distinctly modern take, the company said. The front section in acetate is embellished with Swarovski crystals that create a contrast against the smoky lenses. The Versace logo on the arms adds the finishing touch to this chic frame, available in a broad palette range of black, dark tortoiseshell, clear dark brown, marbled violet and kingfisher green.
For men, the VE4179 model has a rectangular silhouette and rounded wrap lens shape. It is lightweight and understated in appearance. The Versace metal logo placed on the acetate arms is inset within the resin. In addition to classic black, this frame is also available in dark tortoiseshell, brown, green and a sky blue/blue.
VOGUE
The new spring/summer collection presents different trends. These include Hippy in three shades (VO2605S, VO2623S, VO2607S) inspired by the 1970s in fanciful shapes and colours; and Vamp in two oversized shades (VO2608S, VO2614S).
TIFFANY
Tiffany Charms TF 4022B: Oversize round acetate frames are adorned with Tiffany charms. Three pairs of interchangeable metal charms are available: a heart, the letter “T” and the T&Co. logo. Double laminated colours are available in black, black and Tiffany Blue, rich brown and red, or pink and violet. Lenses are available in grey or brown and violet gradient.
Return to Tiffany TF 4026G: Square-shape frames are highlighted with sterling silver plaques emblazoned with Return to Tiffany, the name of a renowned jewellery collection. Colours are double laminated, with choices including black, brown or cherry, alone or combined with Tiffany Blue. Lens colors are available in grey or grey gradient.
Tiffany Signature TF 4024: The graphic “X” symbol that defines the Tiffany Signature jewellery collection houses a butterfly-shape acetate frame. Double laminated colours in black, beige, brown and Tiffany Blue pair with the “X” in gold or silver. The Tiffany & Co. logo is varnished on the temples. Lenses are available in grey or grey and brown gradient.
Tiffany Signature TF 3015: The Tiffany Signature jewellery collection lends its sculpted “X” motif to a rimless metal shield in gold or silver. The Tiffany & Co. logo is varnished on the temples. Lenses are available in violet or grey and brown gradient.
RAY-BAN
Ray-Ban introduces Ray-Ban Craft, a new interpretation of its iconic Outdoorsman, Caravan and Wings models. On these restyled iconic sunglasses the top bar and temple end pieces are covered with soft hand-sewn leather. Ray-Ban Craft styles are sold from a suggested retail price of €179 and €229 (US$189-239) according to the lens choice.
Ray-Ban Craft Outdoorsman RB 3422Q: This is Ray-Ban’s historic model launched in 1938. Eight colours are available in the Craft version: black leather with grey-green lenses, black leather with black lenses, white leather with grey lenses, red leather with pink gradient lenses, tan leather with green lenses; brown leather with brown lenses and blue leather with grey-blue gradient lenses.
Ray-Ban Craft Caravan RB 3415Q: Ray-Ban’s famous metal shades with square lenses come in several colour variations: pink leather with pink gradient lenses, grey leather with grey lenses, black leather with grey-green lenses, white leather and blue mirrored lenses, brown leather with brown gradient or polarised lenses.
Ray-Ban Craft Wings RB 3416Q: A new edition of Ray-Ban’s famous wraparound shades featuring real leather details. Four colours are available: tan leather with orange lenses, white leather with grey mirrored lenses, black leather with grey-green lenses and red leather with orange mirrored lenses.
The brand has also enhanced the new Colorize range with a Wayfarer Colorize Kit, which allows consumer to customize their Wayfarer shades. Plus it has launched Ray-Ban Rare Prints for 2010, which offer special editions of the Wayfarer and Clubmaster models.
Clubmaster RB 3016:
The unconventional and intellectual Stripes model was inspired by the 1950’s. Clubmaster’s style is renewed by multicoloured stripes on the frame front in two versions (white, yellow, blue, red, and turquoise; white, pink, turquoise, and orange).
Ray-Ban Mania Wayfarer and Clubmaster: Two of the most iconic Ray-Ban styles are embellished with small Ray-Ban logos mounted inside the frames. Available in two versions: a red logo on a white background, and a white logo on a red background.
Wayfarer RB 2140 – Rare Prints Special Series: The Wayfarer is embellished with colours and fancy motifs. “Flowers” features four variations with multicoloured patterns (black, white, blue, purple) printed on the inside of the frame, and a version with the motif printed on the predominantly blue multicoloured front; “Subway” presents five variations, all with the motif on the inside (black, white, blue, purple, red). Starting in January, a print with the New York Subway map will also be available on the outside of the frame.
