MALAYSIA. Malaysia Airports has unveiled the winner of its “˜Indulge & Win’ retail promotion contest: 39-year-old Chong Sook Chen won a Nissan Teana 2.5L V6 Premium worth RM175,000 (US$57,000).
Ms Chong received her keys to the car from Malaysia Airports Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Dr Aris Othman at a prize-giving ceremony at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this week.
“I had just touched down at the KLIA Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT-KLIA) after my trip to Bali and decided to purchase some chocolates, wine and foodstuff as souvenirs for friends and family. It’s my first time participating in this contest,” Ms Chong recounted. “All I did was spend about RM250 (US$81.40) and I’m now the owner of a brand new car. I’m extremely happy with my win.”

The Indulge & Win contest was one of several activities under the “˜Indulge Till You Fly’ Campaign, which underscores Malaysia Airports’ overall strategy to create an appealing lifestyle environment for travellers at different airports under its Airports Commercial Model development plan.
The 2011/2012 Indulge Till You Fly Campaign was held at all international airports – KLIA/LCCT-KLIA, Langkawi International Airport, Penang International Airport, Kuching International Airport and Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
Under the campaign, travellers got to take part in the Indulge & Win contest by spending a minimum of RM250 (US$81.40) and completing a contest entry form. MasterCard holders were entitled to two entry forms.
In addition to the Grand Prize presentation, Malaysia Airports also gave away 66 pairs of business-class air tickets, two full holiday packages comprising business-class air tickets and 3-day/2-night stay at a five-star hotel.

Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, Tan Sri Datuk Dr Aris said: “As a successful airport operator, Malaysia Airports recognises that being good operationally is not enough. The truth is airports around the world can no longer rely solely on traffic growth to remain profitable and competitive.
“To be profitable and have the leading edge, airports have to diversify our income streams and commercial services and offerings are the way forward.
“Malaysia Airports has been most focused in our objectives and goals. In 2010, we launched the Indulge Till You Fly Campaign as one of the growth strategies for our commercial development. Under the campaign, we have been actively exploring and employing creative and innovative channels to engage with our retail stakeholders, bringing our campaign to them via channels that are familiar to them.
“For instance, last year, we embarked on our first ever television campaign for commercial services. We also pioneered the use of a ground-breaking mobile information and couponing technology known as iButterfly to drive retail and food & beverage sales at our international airports. These initiatives underscore our commitment to the success of our airport commercial development plan and to diversify Malaysia Airports’ revenue base as we move forward.”
“At KLIA and other international airports, you would notice the many additions and positive changes that have taken place. Today, at KLIA, we have added many more international and local brands to our offerings such as Victoria’s Secret, Charles & Keith, Secret Recipe, Fukuya, Bones and Marrybrown among others – all aimed at enhancing the retail-therapy experience of travellers,” he said.
Malaysia Airports Senior General Manager Commercial Service Puan Faizah Khairuddin added: “At Malaysia Airports, we have started a travellers’ perception change journey; a journey that begins and ends with airport travellers and customers in mind. Our goal is to provide the best possible end-to-end experience by making tangible all aspects that touch travellers throughout their journey.
“Aside from our offerings of global brands, products variety, excellent service and new experiences, customer engagement is a key component of this journey. Our ultimate goal is to have in place for each traveller a priceless airport experience where they come to see airports as destinations in themselves rather than a transit point to their destinations.”
