MALAYSIA. Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today that Malaysia will open its borders to fully vaccinated visitors from 1 April, as strict travel restrictions ease. He said this was part of a ‘transition to endemic’ phase of the pandemic. The news comes as a big boost to aviation, tourism and travel retail.
The Prime Minister said in a statement: “I believe this is one of the big announcements most awaited by the people. The announcement will revive the country’s economy as a whole, especially the tourism industry, which has been severely affected by the pandemic.”

The decision, he added, was based on “the latest science”, comparisons with border opening requirements with other states, and the need to ensure travellers can undertake their journeys without further complication.
Travellers will still be required to test before departure from and after arrival into Malaysia under the new rules.
