Malaysian airport group drives commercial revenues

MALAYSIA. Malaysia Airports Holdings has reorganised its management structure from this month, to place more emphasis on non-aeronautical revenues.

Bashir Ahmad remains managing director, with five divisions reporting to him. He will also temporarily head the new commercial services division, which aims to increase commercial revenue. The five divisions are Airport Operations; Technical Services; Commercial Services; Finance; and Corporate Services

The airport authority owns Eraman, registered as Malaysia Airports (Niaga), the largest airport retailer in Malaysia. Eraman has over 40 outlets in four international airports across the country (Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu).

Syed Ahmad Syed Salim, chief executive officer of Eraman, told The Moodie Report: “Our managing director has mentioned before the need to improve non-aeronautical revenues and I am of the view that the new structure fits in well with that objective. Retail will become a major focus as well. There will also be greater emphasis on raising other forms of potential income, for example, advertising.”
