Mandarina Duck to showcase summer collection in Cannes

Italian designer luggage and fashion accessories brand Mandarina Duck will make its debut at the TFWA World Exhibition next week with its Spring/Summer 2013 collection (Stand number: Blue Village G27).

The new lines are crafted in comfortable, hard-wearing, soft-touch materials, with carefully designed spaces that keep technology – laptops, tablets and smartphones – close to hand, the company said.

Pockets, zips, clothes bags, shoe bags, partitions and compartments, in various combinations of texture and colour, are among the features characterising the collection.

B-Drop: Inspired by the “minimalist elegance of a drop of water”, the B-Drop trolley line contrasts rough surfaces with soft, rounded shapes and toughness and reliability with the lightness of aluminium and polycarbonate. Designed for easy handling, the product comes with polyurethane and nylon composite wheels that are said to be both smooth and silent. The line also includes a trolley that complies with the cabin luggage requirements of the major low-cost airlines.

Feather: Specially designed to offer lightness and practicality, the Feather travel line expands its volume vertically thanks to a practical lining fabric compartment that folds out from the front pocket. Again there is a contrast between its lightness and strength, enhanced by the front stripes that give the trolley what Mandarina Duck describes as “a hardwearing, industrial air”.

Isi: Made of lightweight, colourful and ultra-resistant materials, the Isi line includes a trolley system with an aluminium tow-bar, moulded bottoms and nylon buckles and accessories. The product’s soft, waterproof, ultra-tough fabric and flat-felled seams at all stress points contributes to its strong resistance, according to the company.

LogoDuck: Described as protective luggage with a thick skin, the LogoDuck comes in a bright colour and a ribbed trim that runs around its compact shape.

MD Drop Ahead: Designed to stand out on the luggage carousel, MD Drop Ahead has a striking camouflage all-over print in three variants and an embossed, scratch-resistant and polycarbonate skin that is designed to hide any casual knocks.

Nomad: The Nomad line of backpacks and shoulder bags, made with soft eco-leather, offers hands-free freedom with solutions such as an extractable helmet carrier net for bikers. The sheared and shaped tough aluminium buckle also highlights the Mandarina hallmark and completes the line’s contrasting colour play and subtle style.

Polyduck: A solid, square and spacious polycarbonate travel line, the Polyduck trolley features four feet at the front designed to stop it tipping forward.

Transfer: The Transfer trolley features soft-touch materials and versatile shapes, as well as a rubber-coated handle for a firm and comfortable grip. A spring inside the slider ensures that the rubber-coated pocket zip opens and closes smoothly, and each zip, including the one on the outside bottle carrier, is fitted with a perforated slider that can be padlocked. Fluorescent trims add colour.

Work: A stylish and practical work/travel line of briefcases and suitcases featuring a combination of two soft-touch fabrics. The nylon and polyester blend makes it tough and water-resistant.

Biker Mix: Inspired by the style and details of a typical motorcycle jacket, Biker Mix is a masculine business line, characterised by a horizontal, hot-embossed design feature and a firm closure. Crafted in fine leather, matched with strong fabric, and boasting efficient interior organisation, Biker Mix offers a wide range of models for different needs, including briefcases and shoulder bags.

Executive: Crafted in machined leather and enhanced by Mandarina Duck’s distinctive style and design, this line is designed for professionals.

Town: With a linear structure embellished by discreetly distinctive frontal features, the completed Town range now comes in eco-leather and nylon, with tech-holder accessories and new metal hardware. It comes in a range of backpacks and shoulder bags.

Catch All: The Catch All line of leather wallets is designed to hold everything you need: money, business cards, credit cards and tickets, etc. All the models come in several colours, including black.

Furrow: Described as a new collection with a deliberate focus on Mandarina Duck’s own identity, Furrow is created from a random combination of fabrics and innovative printed textures reproducing the same distinctive weaves. According to the company, these items are impossible to repeat, like finger prints. Characterised by natural leather inserts, these patchwork landscapes offer unusual visual patterns to a line that is “both complete and supremely personal”.

Aurora: Inspired by the aurora borealis, Aurora is a casual bag on which contrasts blend together, Mandarina Duck said. It is characterised by “the gleam and shadow of its translucent surface, the contrasting harmony of its two fabrics, its twin carrying modes and rapid release buttons, [and] the welcome practicality of its interior spaces”.

Era Hera: Era Hera is a line created for women with an elegant design offering practical, well-ordered internal compartments. A specially designed Mandarina Duck treatment makes the leather hard-wearing and waterproof.

Hera: Hera, the wife of Zeus, inspires this collection of well-organised bags with what is described as a strict but feminine style. It includes briefcases, wallets and laptop holders.

MD20: Informal, light and practical, the MD20 line has a classic design updated with new tones and fresh perspectives to its iridescent, 3-D effect, nylon and polyester fabric. A new trolley has been added to the line.

MD Graphic: A tough, light, handy bag designed for summer with fun graphics, new MD logo and transparent material.

Printed In: Open or closed, Printed In’s main design feature is its zip, which is meant to be both decorative and practical. Opening it will allow a glimpse of the bag’s contrasting lining.

Revival: Revival is created based on Mandarina Duck’s eco-compatible research. The main fabric, made of recycled plastic bottles (PET), has a distinctive texture reminiscent of bubble wrap; the tapes are made from bamboo and the zips from regenerated leather. All the models can be folded and sealed inside handy transparent plastic pockets used to hold small items. Thanks to their practical collapsible quality, these bags are ultra-light but tough and take up little space. New models and new colours have been added for the season.

Zip Up: Two side zips open and close to create a bright perimeter that supports the bag and transforms its size according to use. The two suede front pockets, inspired by business menswear, is said to soften the overall style, while the leather handles enhance the coated cotton front designed to make the bag water-resistant.
