Marcell to head business development at San José International

US. Cheryl L. Marcell has been named Deputy Director of Business Development at Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) starting 22 July.

Marcell will oversee all business development and revenue generation strategies for SJC in the newly created position. She has 13 years of experience in the airport industry, and most recently served as Director of Communications and Events for Airports Council International-World in Montréal, Canada, which represents airports worldwide.

Prior to her work with ACI, Marcell served for 11 years as the Deputy Director, Marketing and Public Relations, for the Sacramento County Airport System, where she was responsible for business development efforts for four airports. She managed air service development and successfully recruited seven new airlines, including two international carriers, to Sacramento International Airport.

“We warmly welcome Cheryl and her extensive experience and relationships in the domestic and international airport arena. She will be a vital addition to our team as we work to bring additional air service and business development opportunities to Silicon Valley’s airport,” said SJC Director of Aviation Bill Sherry.

“Cheryl is joining SJC at an ideal time as passenger traffic is trending upward due to more air service choices for Silicon Valley travellers and an improving economy. She will help us forge new business development that will sustain our growth and capabilities.”

SJC recently welcomed the launch of a new daily service between San José and Tokyo by All Nippon Airways and the arrival of Virgin America to serve the Silicon Valley market. In addition, the airport will be working with Signature Flight Support to develop a new fixed base operation for general and corporate aviation on the west side of the airfield.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the talented management team at SJC,” said Marcell. “The airport has built a strong foundation for growth and I’m anxious to get to work to build the business and increase the air service portfolio to take our customers where they want to go.”

ACI-World Director General Angela Gittens added “Cheryl will be able to parlay her knowledge of international best practices, along with her US experience, to help frame the best solutions for Mineta San José International Airport.”
