Marcolin keeps an eye on next year’s sunglasses – 29/09/09

ITALY. Major Italian eyewear group Marcolin has unveiled its 2009/10 sunglasses collections for a host of designer brands including Montblanc, Timberland, Ferrari and DSquared.

Montblanc Eyewear Main Sun Collection 2009/10

The new Montblanc Eyewear collection presents 20 models for men and women for summer. While continuing to be classic, the collection explores new stylistic directions through fresh decorative elements. There are four men’s and four women’s models in acetate, and four women’s and eight men’s models in metal.

The metal frames are luminous from the effects of the gold plating or silver colour. The acetate frames are available in amber, light brown, dark brown and black. The women’s models range from bicolour pearl beige with violet interior to pearl brown with white interior.

MB269S, 14A: This men’s rimless frame in metal features temples with rectangular profiles, enriched with lapped enamel, enclosing the Montblanc brand name. The bridge echoes the ruthenium tones of the temples.

MB272S, 28N: The embellishment on the temples of these aviator sunglasses reproduces the bezel of the Timewalker, the icon from the Montblanc watch collection. The front has a wide double bridge that extends over part of the lenses. The colour palette includes shiny dark grey and gold-plated variations, with lenses available in green, grey or brown.

MB283S, 32T: The sides of the frame in this women’s model incorporates a metal embellishment that encloses the iconic Montblanc emblem. The large-profile front features a lens with open-cut sides, lending lightness to the look.

MB285S, 12W: Made of metal, the temples of this women’s model reproduce the iconic Montblanc emblem symbol in replica. The large, open-cut lenses shade away from the turquoise colour.

MB288S, 59Z: Montblanc jewellery is the inspiration behind these sunglasses in acetate which reproduce the latest 4810 jewel on both temples: a chain decoration in metal, with star motif with mother-of-pearl effect acetate positioned in the centre.

Timberland Main Sun 2009/10 Collection

The new Timberland eyewear P/E 2010 presents 14 “polished and austere” models for men. The six metal models display classic forms with aviator or square front pieces paired with thin sidepieces that at times are very slender. The eight models in acetate are more full-bodied but maintain polished and minimal lines. Several styles have a sportier look with a larger front piece.

The colours major on natural tones including black, dark brown, chestnut brown and ruthenium. Subtle details and brand icons characterise all the models, with embellishments placed on the sidepieces or end pieces.

TB2087, 01R: An injected model for younger customers with an enveloping feel. The rubber nose rest is designed to ensure a perfect fit even during outdoor sports, while the frames play with hues of polished and opaque black paired with polarised green lenses.

TB2094, 01E: These acetate frames embody the Timberland style, distinguished by an elegant metal decoration including a leather inset with the logo pad printed tone-in-tone. The shape is classic and minimal, as are the colours of the frame.

TB2099, 28N: This ultralight model in rose gold is a new design concept, which is characterised by extremely slender sidepieces. Minimal lines aim to appeal to both young and more mature customers.

Ferrari Main Sun Collection 2009/10

The Ferrari Eyewear collection presents 18 new models that are said to combine excellent materials, cutting-edge technology and innovative design. The two main lines, Granturismo and Scuderia, aim to interpret Ferrari’s dual racing and luxury soul.

The Granturismo line is expanded with four new models that take their inspiration from the California automobile. Produced by the Ferrari and Marcolin creative departments, the California glasses combine timeless design with elements of contemporary styling, according to Marcolin.

The fronts of two acetate models, the FR64 and the FR65, re-evoke the soft and winding geometries of the automobile: more rounded and aviator-style in the FR64, squarer in the FR65 model. The temple tips also take their inspiration from the car world, designed to resemble the headlights of the California.

The FR66 and FR67 recall the classic models of driver’s glasses famous for the leather details found on the frame. The two metal models stand out for the skilled craftsmanship in the leather processing, which is designed to recall the details of the car.

The 14 new models in the Scuderia line can be divided into two sub-categories according the materials employed: the first includes the aluminium glasses with thin, wrap-around bars, distinctive for the new Scuderia Ferrari branding, and at the cutting-edge in terms of design and materials (models FR68, FR69, FR70, FR71, FR73).

The second category groups together models produced from rubber or shiny-effect plastic (FR72, FR74, FR75, FR76, FR77, FR78, FR79, FR80), aerodynamic and aggressive, and distinctive for the yellow Scudetto logo positioned to the sides of the front. The dark and uniform surface of the frames, combined with the lively yellow and red decorations, results in dynamic colour contrasts, particularly on the arms.

DSquared Main Sun 2009/10 Collection

Mix’n’match is the inspiration for the new Dsquared2 Eyewear collection, enlivened once again with extreme contrasts of form, size and style. There are 17 new models.

For women, ten new sunglasses frames include elegant models such as the DQ32 and the DQ33 in ultralight metal or the DQ30 and DQ31 in acetate and metal. The models DQ36, DQ37, DQ38 and DQ39 are large glasses embellished with polished metal details.

The seven men’s styles are designed according to the same “youthful-mature” concept as the women’s line.
Inspired by the Seventies, the DQ21 and DQ22 styles aim to appeal to young customers, while the DQ29 are the only wraparound sunglasses in the collection, with a daring look said to be suitable for women as well. The front piece is framed by an ultralight metal silhouette with the “D” logo at its centre.

The ultralight aviators DQ22 and DQ23 are designed to meet the needs of a mature customer.
