USA. Airport retail group MarketPlace Development has officially taken over from Westfield Concession Management as concession manager at Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA) and Washington Dulles International (IAD) airports. The contract is effective from 1 January.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) awarded the contract to Marketplace Development in September last year after an RFP launched in April. That decision was subsequently challenged by Westfield, whose multiple appeals were dismissed.
MarketPlace will be responsible for the marketing, leasing and management of the retail and food & beverage programmes at both airports. Ronald Reagan National’s commercial offer covers 66,000sq ft of retail space and 93 concession locations; Washington Dulles has 90,000sq ft of retail space and 114 concession locations.
The firm said it will work with MWAA to improve and revitalise the offerings by bringing new national, regional and local brands to both airports.
“MarketPlace Development has the unique experience to take our concession programmes to the next level, giving passengers additional shopping and dining options as they travel through both airports,” said MWAA Revenue Development Manager Kathleen Verret.
MarketPlace Development President Paul McGinn added: “We’re looking forward to collaborating with MWAA’s team to develop world-class food, beverage, retail and concession services for both airports.”
The company’s ongoing airport retail development projects include the 178,000sq ft retail development at Philadelphia International Airport and the 59,000sq ft retail redevelopment of the Central Terminal Building at LaGuardia Airport. The company has also worked with other airports around the country, including San Francisco International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
We will bring you more details of Marketplace Development’s food & beverage and retail offers soon.
